NUHAKA: THE
WEBSITE
This is the beginnings of a website
all about Nuhaka, New Zealand.
It presents a breadth of information of the small village
of Nuhaka, New Zealand Aotearoa. It is meant both as an archive and document
of a place in early 21st century New Zealand, and as an example of the power
of the Internet as a tool for undertaking such a task.
This website is organic, and will grow in future as
further content is contributed.
Currently, all the content of this website is in English. It is the goal of
the producers, however, to eventually present it in bilingual form, in Maori
/ Te Reo, and in English.
KEY
FACTS
Nuhaka is a small village, with a population now (2001 Census)
of approximately 350 people. Nuhaka is part of the much larger Wairoa District,
which covers x,000 square kilometres, and which has a population of over 9,000
people.
ECONOMY
The economic growth of Nuhaka and the wider Wairoa District
is slow to stagnant. The town of Wairoa, with 5,000 people, fortunately has
a freezing works (meat processing plant) which services the hinterland, and
is the main employer in the district.
ENVIRONMENT
As one would expect in a place with such a small population,
environmental pressures are low in the Nuhaka area.
SOCIETY
The hub of community life in Nuhaka are the marae and community
halls.
