JOURNAL
These are past journal entries, archived from those previously posted on my home page. Contenets here differ from those in the writing section only in the seinse that they are chronological; in total, these various pieces are all elements of one interconnected "train of thought" forming an entirety of this website.
LIFE
DIRECTIONS: 01.02
I have posted my web
skills oriented resume on this site, as well as two recent graphic
design creations: a logo idea for an urban
sustainability consultancy and another potential
logo for an environmental nonprofit... check them out, and tell me
what you think!...
LA
CIENAGA IN AOTEAROA: 12.01
I have now arrived in the
sweltering heat and humidity of Aotearoa New Zealand, circa Christmas
2001. It is wonderful to be back home among my whanau, experiencing the
great southern summer, the beaches, the bush, the depth of nature in this
wild and undiscovered country. Current projects including helping my son
Jordan make his own website, updating this one, writing a book, and getting
out a bit to see more of the local country...
I think I spent much of December
acclimatizing and sleeping off the stresses of mega-city urban life (post
September 11, to boot...), finding the heat and bugs and humidity tiring
yet somehow calming. I am beginning to really look forward to the opportunities
the future might provide for me back home in these Sentient Islands...
Now to decide whether to live up in Auckland, our very own sprawling archipelagopolis,
or in Wellington, that humming Geneva of the South Pacific.... or, perhaps,
Nuhaka, for a while...... hmmmm.......
* * * * *
Other thoughts: some elements
of life here remind me of the last film I saw in San Francisco, an Argentinian
opus called La Cienaga.... lots of dysfunctional family life in the slow
pace and sweltering heat of that nation's rural backblock highlands....
a crumbling and distracted society matched by its ruined and rotting built
and natural environments... a sad prophecy of recent political developments
there, and a strange contrast to the relative buzz of our humming lands
here.... (more on this, later...)
GREEN
PLANS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: 10.01
I was published recently by
RRI, a report on U.S. state government sustainability. Check it out at
http://www.rri.org/
ONE
DAY IN AMERICA : 9.11.2001
I've written an article, recently
published on Scoop.Co.NZ.
GO
HUIA!: 9.01
Kia Ora! My Mum is running
for the Wairoa District Council, Nuhaka-Tuhara-Whakaki ward. All
her campaign information is available at her website, online now at: http://www.geocities.com/huia4council/
Vote for Huia now!!!
(Postscript, 11.01: my Mum won her run for the Council! Yay!:)
NGA
NUHAKA: 8.01
I was born and bred in a small
village in Aotearoa New Zealand, the groovy little hamlet of Nuhaka. I
am collaborating with my Mom to create a website for Nuhaka
and for the local Rakaipaaka
iwi trust board. There's not much there yet, but there are plans to add
lots of content, and eventually port it to its own website location!
I've also uploaded an old town planning project from over ten years ago,
an examination of the townscape of Wairoa.
An interesting historipiece, methinks...
ART
& VISION : 7.01
So I've got all artistic, and
added a few things to the previously rather sparse "Visions"
section of the website. I've also added pictures to the gallery, in particular
a "mountains and beaches"
collection that will form the basis of a meditation on the notion of place.
UPDATED:
6.01
I've now added writing
samples from over the past five years, when I worked at the Resource
Renewal Institute, promoting the "green plan vision". It was
an exciting time to be working in the dynamic nonprofit sector, but I'm
also quite happy to be taking a "sabbatical" from the burden
of saving the planet... Also included is an online
resume, both in short form and long form. Hopefully, this will
help me find a job when I move back to New Zealand...
WELCOME
TO MY WORLD, 5.01
Hello, and welcome to
my personal website, a documentation of my life, family,
friends, and ideas. Initially, the focus for development
of this website will be the gallery
section, a thematic collection of photographs and images of people
and places important in my life, so I recommend visitors to check
that out first.
A little bit about me: I'm from
New Zealand / Aotearoa, but have lived in San Francisco for the past five
years. I'm about to return home so this will be both an online journal
of my travels and travails and an opportunity to place images of this
new time in my life online.
I guess my plan is to spend the next year or two on a creative bent, and
this will become (I think) an ongoing public journal of this passage.
I sense on "this side" of the fence, here in the culture bubble
that is San Francisco, that returning home to Aotearoa and Nuhaka
will be a spiritual journey as well as a creative one, and so I think
it will be interesting for me to see how these possibilities become a
reality. My life has seemed rather scripted up to here, so its nice to
not know exactly whats coming up for me...
For now, please do check out the
gallery, and the links opposite are
quite fun, too. ;)
And, do feel free to email me, now exclusively at (yes! I am not a hotmail fan, ugh!): [email protected].
Here's a link to my Photo Gallery, which is a part of this Journal section >
