EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

1996 to 2000: Green Plan Center Director, Resource Renewal Institute, San Francisco CA

Director of research and outreach at international environmental nonprofit organization.

Research work includes a "State of the States" assessment of government environmental policies across all 50 states, and research into environmental best practices in Europe and Latin America. Past project work includes: management of contracted outreach projects funded by the City of San Jose, California, and the Greater New Orleans Community Foundation in Louisiana; writing of numerous articles and analytical reports; presentations on green planning to regional and national conferences and events; and joint oversight of the development phase of RRI's Green Plan Leadership Program.

Community outreach projects in San Jose and New Orleans involved targeted meetings and interviews with cross-sectoral community leaders from business, government, and non-profit/activist sectors. Projects involved assessment of potential for long-term comprehensive environmental planning in each region. Played significant role in community outreach meetings, jointly facilitating group discussions. Recently completed redesign and restructuring of organization’s website (http://www.rri.org/).

Extensive project management experience, including: contracted outreach projects in New Orleans, LA, and San Jose, CA; proposal development for new environmental leadership and education program; and contribution to broader organizational operations.Strong presentation, design, and budgeting skills developed. Extensive writing and speech making experience.

Participant and co-leader of RRI-sponsored "Seeing is Believing" environmental policy tours to the Netherlands and New Zealand.

1993 to 1996: Policy Analyst, Waitakere City Council, Auckland, New Zealand

Policy analyst at large New Zealand city. Contributed substantially to a number of strategic projects, including the development of a leisure plan and development of the city's overall strategic 40-year 'Greenprint' for the future. Made numerous presentations to public forums and political committee meetings, and developed strong facilitation skills. Work also included initial development of city website (http://www.waitakere.govt.nz/) and development of an interactive kiosk promoting the city.

1989 to 1993: Planner, Auckland Regional Council (ARC), New Zealand

Undertook research and report writing, including analysis of regional demographic trends and the cultural transition of the region's indigenous Maori people. The research work at the ARC was profiled in national newspapers and magazines.

Citizenship: Dual U.S. and New Zealand citizenship. Of Polynesian Maori descent (Ngati Kahungunu iwi, Rakaipaaka hapu).

Interests: Environmental issues, current events, politics, travel, urban trends, Internet and new media, contemporary popular culture and social issues. In 1999, I was a member of the Environment Working Group of the Oakland Sharing the Vision strategic plan revision team, and am on the U.S. Planning Committee for the Eco-City V Conference in South Africa in 2002.
