the Moon

There are an awful lot of moon theories out there! You may choose to try to conceive during certain zodiac signs or under certain planets, or to use the phase (new/full) of the moon to your advantage.

The Zodiac Theory   top
One way to plan out the gender of your next child is to simply see what zodiac position the moon is in at the time you expect to ovulate. It is recommended that you have sex prior to this time so that the sperm can be ready and waiting for the egg. You can combine a Shettles cutoff or any other method you choose to go along with this.

Some good sites for locating the moon's current zodiac position are:
http://www.topquarkia.com/Docs/Stargazer/VOID.HTM - zodiac position for several months
http://www.lunarliving.org/voc2003.html - this one has them in calendar format
http://www.zodiacarts.com/Calendar.shtml - this calendar has the moon's zodiac position along with it's phase, all in calendar format

The Phase Theory   top
During a New Moon phase a woman's egg attracts female sperm and during a Full Moon phase it attracts male sperm. So if you ovulate during a New Moon phase (which is from the start of a New Moon up until one day prior to the Full Moon) and get PG you will have a Girl. If you ovulate during a Full Moon phase (which is from the start of Full Moon up until one day prior to the New Moon) and get PG you will have a boy. It's that simple - you just need a calendar with the moon phases and you also need to know EXACTLY when you ovulate (so get some OPK's or a monitor). The only time it's iffy is if you ovulate the day before a New Moon or the day before a Full Moon (apparently the egg could go either way at that point and you'll have a 50-50 chance of boy or girl).

A site for the current phase of the moon is:

Almanac.com also has a list of several years' full moons.

* Signs marked with an asterisk are on the 50/50 list. While they may tend to give one result more than the other please remember that there is a lesser pull with these signs.

Please note that it is common practice to look at the moon's zodiac position at the time of ovulation to determine what sex the child will be.
Another way to interpret this information is to go and see what the planets' positions are. Let's say on January 7, 2003 Venus entered Sagittarius. Venus is a fruitful girl planet, and Sagittarius is a barren boy sign ruled by Jupiter (girl/fruitful) and Neptune. Neptune does not have information with it, so we'll call it 50/50 until better informed. So you have fruitful girl, barren boy, fruitful girl, and 50/50. This would lead to the thought that you have a good chance of conceiving a girl as long as Venus is in Sagittarius. The next day the moon enters Aries. In this case, we only include Aries in our interpretation; it is a barren boy sign ruled by Mars(boy/barren) and Pluto(another 50/50?). This increases your odds of having a boy.

The Planetary Theory   top
This is the roll-up-your-sleeves method for those who are willing and able to put in some time and want to be really really sure that everything is lined up right. Or it's just for fun for the rest of us :)

Step 1: Get your natal chart (and the father's). Some of the planets are in the same zodiac position for years, so you can really disregard them as far as planning out your next attempt. The closer planets move around more frequently so we can pay closer attention to them.

Step 2: Joe M. Kosichek found an interesting relationship between transiting (passing) planets and the gender of the child conceived. Going back 14 days from conception (or ovulation), and using your birth chart, you may calculate what the planets forecast for you.
It gets a little tricky because you need to use a heliocentric system and most places use geocentric. You will have to track the transits manually. To make this a little easier you could print out the chart info for each day (for the mother and the father). AstroDienst has a heliocentric chart you can use, printable instructions here.

Step 3: Once you have the charts with the transits marked, keep them separated in one pile for the mother and one for the father. Track the transits for each parent for the 14 day period by noting how many transit lines are associated with the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. Be sure to include the transits of these planets with the natal positions of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. You do not need to include the moon. Click here for some printable charts you can use. Mark the information for the whole 14 day period on one chart section. So if Mercury had 6 lines coming from it over the 14 days, you would mark 6 blocks in the chart.

Step 4: Compare your charts with those seen here. Using this information, you can see if the planets are swaying your natural gender efforts one way or the other. It's a little confusing and a little hard, but is worth it if this is what you want. The site you are being directed to with that link is extremely informative and you may want to check it out more thoroughly if this interests you.

Much respect to Joe M. Kosichek B.Sc. Click here to view his site. He can also determine dates for you using his theories.

The Jonas-style Calendar   top
If you would like to print out your own Jonas-style calendar to plan out your attempt, please follow these directions.

Step 1: Go to astro.com and set up your personal portrait. Once you have set it up it will take you back to the first screen. You want to select the "Extended Chart Selection" link at the bottom of the page, included below. Here is a screen shot:

screen shot 1

Step 2: On the next page you should click Astrodienst Special as shown in the following picture:

screen shot 2

Step 3: On this page you will see a drop menu as illustrated below (arrow 1). Select the "Lunar Fertility Calendar*" at the bottom of the menu. If you want to check it against your previous pregnancies you can change the date (arrow *) before you click the button that I have marked "2."

screen shot 3

Step 4: Your calendar will look similar to the one below. The areas I have magnified are the full moon (greenish yellow) and new moon (black). You can print the calendar.

Using the Jonal-style Calendar to determine the gender of your next child   top
This information compliments of Julie
Using the astro-dienst site. The astrology sign above the lunar fertility chart is where the sun is. If you look at where the sun is at the time of conception [for your current or most previous pregnancy] you will see what gender you are lined up for next. IF you have your baby late you need to enter your baby's birthday into a pregnancy calculator to see when a baby born at that time would be conceived. Look to see where the sun is at that time as that will be the gender you are lined up for. After mc it is just 50/50 for your next gender. If you have your baby early you need to look at both the conception date and the pregnancy calculators date for that birthday. IF they both fall under the same sun sign that is the gender you are lined up for next. IF they do not then you are 50/50 for your next gender. I have done more then 200 charts and it is 83% accurate so far. I have also noticed that alot of the times that the ladies even conceived their next baby under the sun sign they were lined up from. So if they conceived in September under the sun sign Libra their next baby was a boy conceived under Libra. This happens often enough for me to notice.
Julie was a large contributor to our moon accuracy data.
