The Cyber Dwelling of a Canaanite Pagan |
"For a message I have, and I will tell you, A word, and I will recount to you, The word of tree and the whisper of stone, The converse of Heaven with Hell, Of Deeps with Stars, I understand the lightening which the Heavens do not know, The word people do not know, And earth's masses do not understand. Come and I will reveal it..." - Ba'al from The Ba'al Myth |

Welcome, Mtbt or mathbatu is an Ugaritic term, part of the language once spoken in the ancient Canaanite city Ugarit several thousand years ago. It roughly translates to a temporarily constructed "hut", "lodge", or "dwelling" made out of branches. The mathbatu was sacred and was used in rituals that took place on the roof of the royal palace. Its purpose beyond that is a mystery, like many things that emerge from the often ambiguous Ugarit texts. This little cyber mathbatu or dwelling is my personal website. Its main focus is Canaanite religion from the perspective of a fledgling devotee. Enjoy your visit and please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions. - OpenHands Most Recent Update: May 10, 2009 Many changes to come this summer. With Geocities closing, I will be finding a new online home soon. The Mathbatu will be getting a new name, new look and new content. Stay tuned. |
