| EAST COURT FOOTBALL CLUB A BRIEF HISTORY East Court FC were founded in 2002 by a group of school friends who used to spend their lunchtimes playing football together on the playground. As chairman Billy Denyer once said "This is one of the principle reasons for the club's outstanding team spirit and morale". After their time at Sackville School in East Grinstead had finished they all moved away to go to university but still found time to meet up and play football during the holidays. From this a proper football club was formed so that on their return they could play competitive football in the Mid Sussex Football League from season 2002/3 onwards. Although the idea had previously been discussed informally it was an April night in Pals where the club took their first official steps. Due to the hard work of various people such as Paul Bishop and Billy Denyer the club were able to find sponsorship, purchase a kit and meet all the leagues requirements so that come September 2002 the club would be starting their first season together based at Imberhorne School. East Court are now half-way through their fourth season and have gone from strength to strength. They have gained promotion each season and are now playing division 4 football having started in division 7 and have won the Malins Challenge Cup twice, the Liverpool Arms Cup once and have been losing finalists in the Stratford Challenge Cup as well. Throughout this time the club have had only two managers, the first of which, Jim Seeds, lasted only seven games before being replaced by current player-manager Daniel Medcalf. Over the years Jack Bishop, Ross Kelly and Simon Nickols have ably supported Medcalf in his role. For the full history click here |

| Latest News 07/11/06 After last weekend's results we lie in second in the league with 14 points from 6 games, Scaynes Hill are first with 15 points from 6 games and East Grinstead Mariners are third with 14 points after 7 games. Horley Athletico are a point further behind in fourth. Our upcoming cup opponents are Rose Hill Utd in the Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Cup Round 3 and Franklands Village (3rd in division 2) in the second round of the Edgar German Cup. In other news, the club Christmas party is on December 16th. 22/10/06 Well, its been a while since the last news update. Since that opening day victory we have climbed to the top of the table, albeit only on goal difference ahead of Horley Athletico, and progressed to the second round of both the Edgar German Challenge Cup and Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Cup. The only real downside was the Stubbins Challenge Cup first round exit at Ardingly II. We've scored plenty of goals, although we've conceded a few too many as well. Anyway, next weekend sees the short trip to East Grinstead Mariners in what is an eagerly anticipated game for many and then we have two cup games in a row. First up is a trip to Surrey and Hampshire Border League Division 4 North side Knaphill Village in the Surrey Cup, full details of their season so far can be found here. Knaphill lie sixth out of eight with four points from their opening five games. They made it through the first round of the Surrey Cup after their opponents failed to complete the fixture. After that we entertain Franklands Village in the second round of the Edgar German Cup. Franklands Village currently lie fourth in division 2 with 12 points from 6 games and had a bye in the first round of the cup. 03/09/06 East Court opened their season with a 6-3 home win over Lindfield II. The goals came from Ross Kelly 2, Carl Zimmatore 2, Billy Denyer and Ben Sunderland. 29/08/06 East Court finished their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a resounding 5-2 victory over Ardingly, helped in no small part by a hattrick from striker Ross Kelly (apologies for any errors or omissions in the match report, it was written a few busy days after the game finished). Court can now look forward to the start of the new season and an opening day game at home to Lindfield II. Kick-off will be at 2 o'clock at Notre Dame. 19/08/06 We were narrowly defeated 5-3 by a strong Uckfield Town side on Thursday. Trailing 4-1 at half-time we battled back to 4-3 and seemed to be finishing more strongly until a late goal killed the game off. Full details (and pictures) can be found here. 16/08/06 BREAKING NEWS: EAST COURT SURREY CUP MISERY TO END? After many emails and phone calls from the chairman Billy Denyer East Court have been handed a possible way to get out of the Sunday Lower Junior Cup - if it had gone on much longer I'm sure they'd have blocked his number and email address. If any teams drop out of the Saturday version of the cup then we might be able to replace them. That'd be much more sensible than getting up for 10:30 kick-offs the other side of Surrey on a Sunday morning. |
