East Court finished their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a resounding 5-2 victory over Ardingly, helped in no small part by a hattrick from striker Ross Kelly (apologies for any errors or omissions in the match report, it was written a few busy days after the game finished). Court can now look forward to the start of the new season and an opening day game at home to Lindfield II. Kick-off will be at 2 o'clock at Notre Dame.

We were narrowly defeated 5-3 by a strong Uckfield Town side on Thursday. Trailing 4-1 at half-time we battled back to 4-3 and seemed to be finishing more strongly until a late goal killed the game off. Full details (and pictures) can be found here.

BREAKING NEWS: EAST COURT SURREY CUP MISERY TO END?

After many emails and phone calls from the chairman Billy Denyer East Court have been handed a possible way to get out of the Sunday Lower Junior Cup - if it had gone on much longer I'm sure they'd have blocked his number and email address. If any teams drop out of the Saturday version of the cup then we might be able to replace them. That'd be much more sensible than getting up for 10:30 kick-offs the other side of Surrey on a Sunday morning

BREAKING NEWS: EAST COURT IN SURREY CUP SHOCKER

Where to start? The Surrey County Cup draws have finally been made and we have received the first few fixtures of the season. In the league we begin with three consecutive home matches against Lindfield II, Cuckfield Town II and Fletching before travelling to Ardingly II (Division 4) in the Stubbins Challenge Cup, East Grinstead Town III (Division 3) in the Edgar German Challenge Cup and then finally to Rose & Thistle in the Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Cup. Yes, thats right - the Surrey
SUNDAY Lower Junior Cup. Having entered the Saturday Junior Cup the Surrey FA have managed to not only put us in the wrong cup but also on the wrong day. How this will affect the registration of those players who play for other teams on a Sunday I don't know. More news is expected soon on what the club are going to do about this debacle.

The club entered two teams into the Copthorne 5-a-side tournament
today. The 'A' team consisted of Paul Bishop, Dan Medcalf, Adam
Shillibeer, Billy Denyer, Ross Kelly and Ben Sunderland while the 'B'
team involved Dan Lamprell, Simon Nickols, Nick Palmer, Richard
Hayes, Carl Buckler and Paul Brice. Initally the tournament was split
into 3 groups of 5 before quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
Both teams won their groups, East Court A won group A having won
3 and drew 1 of their games while the B team won all four of their
games without conceding a goal to top group C. Overall the B team
were much more impressive in their opening stage, beating a good
Chipstead side as well as some more local teams. The A team won
their opening game against one of the four Copthorne sides before
drawing their second match after conceding a last minute goal. In
their third game they played another Copthorne side and were
fortunate to win 2-1 after two moments of magic from Billy Denyer.
By the time the last match kicked East Court knew a draw would
secure first place in the group and with the opponents already out of
the competition the game was played at walking pace with East Court
eventually winning 2-0.

In the quarter-finals the B team kicked off first against the better of
the two Copthorne sides from group A but despite leading 1-0 at
half-time crashed out. The A team had no such problems beating
the Copthorne side who had finished third in group C by six goals
to nil. In the semi-final they played the conquerors of the B team
but there was no repeat of the problems from the group match
between the two sides, Medcalf put them in front in the first half
before setting up Denyer to score a second. After that a solid
defensive performance ensured a 2-0 win and a final place against
Chipstead. Denyer almost scored an unbelievable goal having
juggled the ball past a couple of defenders but his shot flew just
high and wide, he made amends soon after when he converted Sunderland's cross to put East Court in front. Things could've got even better for Court as Kelly was twice taken out by the keeper when through on goal but the referee waved play on on both occasions. As if to rub it in Chipstead won a penalty seconds later at the other end for an incident that seemed to be outside the box. The keeper stepped up to take the spot-kick but fired it wide of Bishop's right hand post. In the second half Chipstead piled on the pressure but were unable to force Bishop into making too many saves as the defence held firm in front of him. East Court struggled to make any impression going forward throughout the half but despite that, and despite Denyer having to go off injured with a head injury, East Court held on to a 1-0 victory to win the trophy.
