| June 2006 News 18/06/06 Various rumours have been flying around over the weekend about an approach from Sussex County League Division 1 side Eastbourne Town for last season's top scorer Billy Denyer and manager Dan Medcalf. While it is true that Denyer has been approached the club do not regard these players as being available for transfer and hope that both will turn up for pre-season training firmly committed to the East Court cause. Both players have previously turned down approaches from County League Division 2 side East Grinstead Town. 14/06/06 It's been a while since the last update but here we go again. Since the end of the season I've been busy concentrating on athletics but with the World Cup underway and Spain hammering Ukraine as I type it's time for an ECFC update. Plenty of news to report so here we go: 1) Management Change - At the club's AGM it was decided that Ross Kelly would be relinquishing his role on the Management Committee to take over from Andrew Swede as tresaurer. Centre back Adam Shillibeer has been named as co-manager alongside Daniel Medcalf, Simon Nickols retains his place on the committee. The former committee was in charge for the whole of last season and finished with the following playing record: P 29 W 20 D 3 L 6 F 136 A 52 Gd +84. Incidentally no managament team has lost more games than this while in charge of East Court! 2) Pre Season Training - Training will start again on Wednesday 05 July 2006 at 19:00 at East Court. Usual meeting place by the pavilion. Hopefully we will have finalised our squad for the coming season by then so that the management team can start planning for the new season. 3) Pre Season Friendlies - East Court have announced that they will be entering two teams in the Copthorne 5-a-side tournament on Saturday 12 August 2006. The first annual Sackville Cup match against newly formed Cowden Mavericks was pencilled in for 29 July 2006, to be followed by drinks at their clubhouse and a curry at our new sponsors - Nizams. This date is still to be confirmed. 4) Players Out - With Cowden Mavericks among the many teams to be accepted into the Mid Sussex League for the upcoming season James Salter has now offically left the club to take up a role there. Congratulations to Cowden for being accepted and good luck to them and Salts next year. Lee Champion has also confirmed that he is leaving for Premier Division side East Grinstead United. Having been close to joining them last season he has put a stop to the speculation that has been going on since Christmas and committed to them, we wish him well as he seeks to test himself at a higher level. 5) Players In - Obviously we don't have the biggest squad and so anyone who leaves needs to be replaced. West Hoathly's Stuart Moseley has shown an interest in joining us from our division 3 rivals. A wide player who can play in defence or midfield, he is widely expected to sign up in the next few weeks now that the forms are available again for the coming season. Stuart top scored for a struggling West Hoathly side last year with 11 goals from 22 appearances. Striker Carl Zimmatore of Ashurst Wood is also reportedly interested in signing but negotiations are at a much less advanced stage. Carl played 18 times last year for Wood in their promotion campaign and scored 11 goals. 6) New Pitch - It has been confirmed that next season we will be playing our games at Notre Dame school in Lingfield. Updated information will appear on the links page in due course. 7) New Sponsors - At the AGM it was also confirmed that a sponsorship deal has been signed with local business Nizam Indian Restaurant.and Nowadays General Store. As part of the deal we will be sporting a new gold away kit for the upcoming season as well as an all new home strip in our familiar blue and black stripes. 8) 2006/7 Competitions - Our promotion to division 3 has been confirmed and the full line-up reads as follows: AFC Ringmer (promoted), Cuckfield Town II (8th), East Court (promoted), East Grinstead Mariners (7th), East Grinstead Town III (relegated), Fletching (promoted), Horley Athletico (4th), Lindfield II (9th), Maresfield Village II (relegated), Roffey (5th), Scaynes Hill (6th) and West Hoathly (10th). Last season's positions are shown in brackets. Due to moving pitches and ending up in Surrey we are unable to take part in the Sussex FA Junior Cup competition that we have done over the past couple of years so instead we will be participating in Surrey's version of it. We will also be taking part in the Edgar German Cup (for divisions 2-4) and the Stubbins Cup (divisions 3-5). I think that about wraps things up for today. Now its time to sit back and enjoy Tunisia versus Saudi Arabia. |
