East Court opened up their pre-season campaign in style with a 9-0 victory over Cowden Mavericks. After a slow start goals from Ross Kelly (3), Billy Denyer (2), Carl Buckler (2), Andy Wright and Stuart Moseley helped East Court on their way. At half-time it was 3-0 but it could have been different as Cowden hit the crossbar at 2-0. Court improved in the second half and stamped their authority on proceedings but it could have been even more with Kelly hitting the woodwork twice over the ninety minutes. Carl Zimmatore joined new signings Mark Champion and Stuart Moseley in making his first appearance in East Court colours as the home side played their last game in their original kit. Full match report to follow here.

In other news East Court have been drawn away to fellow division 3 side East Grinstead Town III in the first round of the Edgar German Cup with the winners entertaining division 2 side Franklands Village in the second round. AFC Ringmer are amongst the teams in the same half of the draw as us along with local clubs Ardingly, Ashurst Wood and East Grinstead Mariners. The other half of the draw involves Willingdon Athletic II, who walked away with division 3 last year, as well as local sides Crawley Down III (D2), East Grinstead Utd II (D2) and West Hoathly (D3).

In the Stubbins Cup we make the short trip to Ardingly II (D4) in the first round with a home tie against Cuckfield Town II or West Hoathly (both division 3) in the second round. East Grinstead Town III are also in our half of the draw and are potential semi-final opponents should we get that far. AFC Ringmer (D3), Dormansland Rockets (D4), East Grinstead Mariners (D3) and Turners Hill II (D5) are all in the other half of the draw.

It's the morning of the club's first game of the pre-season and a chance to open the new ground at Notre Dame (the map on the Links page will be updated shortly) against new side Cowden Mavericks. Among our squad today should be new signings Mark Champion and Stuart Moseley. Also in action could be Carl Zimmatore as the club look to resurrect his move from Ashurst Wood. Anyway, kick-off is at 4pm, follow the instructions on www.eastcourtfc.co.uk to get there.

Pre-season training got underway yesterday when the grand total of 11 players turned out at East Court. Amongst the 11 players was a new signing in Mark Champion, former player Lee Champion's older brother. Mark played a couple of games for the club in the build-up to the 2004/5 season between the sticks but was unable to play for us that season due to injury problems. On his return to the club he is targetting a place out on the pitch and won't be challenging keepers Paul Bishop and Dan Lamprell for the number one jersey. Training will return next Wednesday and hopefully a few more players will crawl out of the woodwork to join us.
