LOADING MAPS AND MODS • To load WADs in DooM (singular or multiple), use the command line parameter -file, followed with a space, then the filename of the WAD or other file you wish to include. Multiple files should be separated with a single space between each file/pathname. doom -file whatever.wad VACATION PHOTOS • To take screenshots while playing DooM, use the command line parameter -devparm, in addition to any others. While playing screenshots are taken with the F1 key, and are saved as 8-bit PCX files at 320x200 resolution, in the directory which DooM is installed to. doom -devparm ALLOW ME TO CUT IN • The chainsaw is best used against demons and wraiths, as it locks them into a stun animation. Tougher foes may break out of this stun-lock and attack you, so don't use it against barons of hell. A FIST FULL OF DYNAMITE • The Berserk Pack lasts for the entire level, even after the red haze fades away. Don't waste ammunition on demons and wraiths if you don't need to. If your footwork is fancy enough, you can even take out cacodemons and barons of hell without a scratch. Just make sure all of the former humans in the area are taken care of first. SHOTGUN SURGERY • The unrealistic spread of the shotgun makes it much less useful than its real-life counterparts, but at near-muzzle range, it can be devastating, as there will be no room for the pellets to spread. It's still effective at intermediate range, but you may be wasting ammunition if using it against distant, single enemies. FULL AUTO SNIPER • The minigun is most accurate with its first two shots in a burst, and can be used to great sniping effect if you refrain from holding the fire button down, instead, tapping it repeatedly. Continuous fire should only be used for hordes of enemies, when a rocket or BFG shot isn't economical. SPLASH WARNING • Rockets, while powerful, can be a two-edged sword in close quarters. Be sure of your surroundings when you plan on dumping rockets into a crowd. A stray demon always seems to sidle into your view while you're laying waste to distant foes. No need to obliterate that blue armor you just picked up. WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER • Monster infighting should be initiated and exploited at every opportunity. Enemies that fire guns or launch projectiles can be baited into hitting their now erstwhile allies. This technique can be tremendously effective against large mobs, so you should take your leave while your enemies hash out their disagreements to deadly effect.
