Microsoft TCP 32 bit for Windows 3.X
|
|
|
Just what you need to get started using the Infotainment Megaroad and the High Traffic Motor Lanes. This will help Windows use "web domain names" instead of "IP addresses", by utilizing DNS services. Like a phonebook that tells your computer what the number for "lysator.lie.se" is!

World Wide Web Browsers
These programs are free, and will allow you to view multimedia experiences, like this very homepage. These programs are a bit too big to fit onto a floppy disk, so I recommend using some other kind of media.

Utilities and Tools
These programs are recommended to get more out of your computer in the new "Information Age" I heard about on the Computer Chronicles.

PKUnZip
This program is pretty essential, and is needed to open ZIP archives in DOS. It's even helpful with WinZip in Windows.

WinZip
This program is ShareWare, and is very useful in opening ZIP archives. It's essential in Windows 95, to preserve long filenames.

Paint Shop Pro 3.11
This program is ShareWare, but is the absolute best when it comes to image editing, digital drawing, and digital painting.
It works with about every image file format ever devised. I want to buy it, but I don't have a credit card, and I can't
find it in stores or in catalogs that take money orders.

This software greatly expands the utility of the Windows 95 control panel, and is especially important in refreshing icons.

This program makes the boxes around icon text on the Windows 95 desktop... transparent! Very lightweight and handy.

Game System Emulators
These programs are a virtual version of computer systems, of which game consoles are a subset. Emulators often have rather
hefty system requirements, even to emulate game systems made in the early eighties, so don't expect being able to pack up
your Nintendo or your Genesis and play everything on your computer instead. Maybe some day, someone will make cartridges
that will let you play games saved on some kind of flash memory or even a memory card? That would be awesome.
|
NESticle
The premier Nintendo Entertainment System emulator, and if even has support for gamepads. This archive includes DOS4GW,
but you will have to find your own game software for obvious reasons.

Genecyst
An excellent Sega Genesis emulator, and like Nesticle, it's from Bloodlust Software. The latest version features a wholly
rewritten sound system. The system requirements are more demanding than even Nesticle, if you want playable framerates. As
with Nesticle, game software is yours to acquire on your own. The game copiers advertised in game magazines should do the
trick just fine.
