NES Tech

Think of these hacks like patches for games. You can use Nesticle to bind them to the originals. There is more information in the README.TXT files in each of the archives. No game software is included with these hacks. How you acquire these games is up to you. Dumping cartridges takes specialized hardware that you can't just find at Toys R Us or Babbage's. Maybe people in the alt.bin newsgroups may have some ideas.

Modification key:
- Sprites and/or background graphics modified
- Level design altered
- Text modified for spelling, grammar, or clarity

   Blaster Master
     Blaster Master: Metafight Alpha

14,097 bytes
This massive hack makes Blaster Master a little more futuristic, and expands some of the maps and mazes, also correcting the few errors I could find.

   Bubble Bobble
     Bubble Bobble Proofread

1,241 bytes
This hack corrects the broken English in the game, making it a bit more sensible.

   Crystalis
     Crystalis Proofread

1,436 bytes
This hack corrects the numerous misspellings, absent punctuation, and grammatical errors in the original text.

     Crystalis Computer Repair

1,001 bytes
This hack is simple, and it just fixes a few tiles on the name entry computer screen.

     God Slayer Computer Repair

1,252 bytes
This hack is simple, and it just fixes a few tiles on the name entry computer screen in the Japanese version of the game.

   Ghosts 'n Goblins
     Ghosts 'n Goblins Proofread

1,436 bytes
This hack corrects the hideous, albeit arcade-accurate grammar and wording of the ending screens.

   Ikari Warriors
     Ikari Warriors Proofread

1,349 bytes
This hack only fixes the ending screen, not that anyone can stand this awful game long enough to see it without cheating, and even then, it's a chore.

   Metal Gear
     Metal Gear: MSX+ Style

5,242 bytes
This hack was a massive undertaking, and corrects most of the colors, item icons, sprites, and grammar, and writing in the game, making it more like the MSX2 original. Maybe some day, someone can make it so that you have to fight Metal Gear directly.

   Strider
     Strider Proofread

1,191 bytes
This hack corrects the wonky English of this early Capcom title.
