Enduring images
of France 98
'The streets were full of footballs,' wrote
Samuel Pepys on 2 January 1665. And now, some 500 years
later, streets up and down the whole world are full of a
benign footballing complaint known as World Cup Fever. In a
way, it's not unlike the Bubonic plague that Pepys also
wrote about, except that you don't need to get bitten by a
rat.
I wanted to create something of lasting value as a tribute
to the world's greatest sporting event. Instead, I'm doing
this half-baked website. Why not drop in from time to time
as I record my observations and experiences while watching
the thing they are calling France
98.
(On telly. In pubs, mainly. Not in France.)
Yours in fever, Gray
