| RULES CONTINUED |
| KEEPING PLAYERS Each franchise is permitted not required, from one year to the next, to keep players from the following positions: - 2 infielders (this includes catchers) - 2 outfielders - 2 pitchers A team may not keep 2 infielders from the same position. A team may, however, keep 2 pitchers of the same position (starter/reliever). CONTRACT PRICING FOR KEPT PLAYERS Auctioned Players A player that is purchased during the auction has a value the same as that price paid to purchase that player. Thus, a player bought for $10 has a value of $10. Non-Auctioned Players A player who is drafted or picked up via drop has a value which corresponds to the value listed for the player on the day he was picked up as stated in USA Today's Baseball Weekly. Effect of Dropping A player who was purchased during the auction, acquired via trade, picked up in the supplemental draft or picked up via drop and is then dropped is treated as though that player has been released - thereby nullifying all contracts. Thus, a dropped player has no value until they are picked up - and the value for the player is then determined by Baseball Weekly as of the date the player was acquired. No team/owner may drop a player and then re-add that player until they have waited 24 hours. In other words, you cannot add a player you've dropped for 24 hours. NOTE: this is effective regardless of whether a player has been kept a previous year and thereby has a higher contract value than when originally purchased (see below) Effect of Trading Regardless of how a player is acquired by the team trading away a player, the traded player maintains the value the previous owner possessed in that player. Thus, a player who was either bought for $10 or was picked up and worth $10 at the time acquired stays $10 when traded. (this makes sense, since in a keeper league the price paid or the contract a player has is a selling (or detracting) point). NOTE: this is effective regardless of whether a player has been kept a previous year and thereby has a higher contract value than when originally purchased (see below) SALARY CAP HITS FOR KEEPING A PLAYER Each team has $270 with which to purchase their full roster. A player who is kept has his value come off of this salary cap. If a team opts to keep a player beyond the first year of acquisition, the contract offered to that player is as follows: The amount a player is offered via contract increases in increments of $2 each year, cumulatively. Thus, the first year a player is kept the player's value increases $2...year two, $4....year three, $6, and so on. Thus, a player purchased for, or possessing a value of $5 at the time acquired (year 1)costs $7 to keep that player the next year (year 2)....$11 to keep that player in year 3....$17 in year 4, and so on. |
