I was reading about Sade in 1982, way before I'd ever heard their music. All I knew was they had a cool image, but I had no clue what the sound was like.Once I heard them for myself,I saw a lead singer, Helen Folasade Adu and her band who were ready to give 80's jazz a sultry melancholy voice and a hip, seductive image that lasts to this day. Even though the band's creative edge has waned after1985's Promise, they enjoy more popularity than ever before.

PORTISHEAD
Not a few critics called Portishead's 1994 debut CD, Dummy, the second-most influential record of the decade, right behind Nirvana's Nevermind. The dark, foreboding melodies, wailing lyrics that wallow joyfully in despair are not for the faint of heart. Portishead does not make music faster than 80bpm, so there is no "lighter side". The cleverly selected samples, eerie production techniques and deep, killer hooks round out the massive sonic attack of this quartet from the gloomy England town of the same name.
For twenty plus years, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have written and recorded some of the most dramatic, orchestral and intelligent music the world of pop has seen on either side of the Atlantic. The clever lyrics gingerly warbled by Tennant's passive-agressive persona perfectly compliment the sometimes-pedantic, but always-intriguing melodies Lowe churns out from his musical devices. The Boys have remained a major musical force in Europe and the rest of the world but in the US you'd hardly know it. That's because PSB are probably the most un-American recording artists in existence. They make disco not rock, they are gay and dont care if you know. They are stylish, they are educated and they have another hit album in 2002!
