This section highlights some of the key things I love. Some things are more interesting or significant than others of course. But all a little telling about me.

Poems
The written word can have such a huge impact on society. For those who know me, I am not a particularly mushy person and I actually disdain someone attempting to write me poetry. I'm suppose to just sit there and be like awwww, that's sweet because they wrote it for me but it's crap. No thanks. Anywho...Two poems have affected me greatly.
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost was first assigned to me in 7th or 8th grade. At the time, I had NO interest in learning it or reading it. Later, however, I referred back to it and saw its significance. Since, I have been very thoughtful about the decisions I make knowing the path I take will effect so many things I do or am able to do from that point forward and that I can never return to the exact same point again to alter my decision.
The Negro Mother by Langston Hughes
speaks through the spirit of "the negro mother" who speaks to her children who, because of her struggles, will be able to enjoy life as she never had. The poem is not only from one mother to her children, but also from all black women who struggled under slavery, injustice, and brutality. As a black woman in America, this poem helps me reflect back and think of the trials and tribulations of my ancestors who worked tirelessly with the hope that I and other black would have a better life. With that focus I am able to endure hard work and long hours to advance professionally, spiritually, emotionally and financially. And it reminds me that no matter how great I think I am, it is because of others that I am even able to get the opportunity to try to advance. And they will never be forgotten because the results of their tireless efforts and contributions to liberate blacks in this country will always be with us. Additionally, the advancement I make today will help other women and blacks in the future.
