Hminga accuses Cong, MNF of neglecting villages in eastern borders

Aizawl Oct 12 :Opposition leader and president of the Mizoram Peoples Conference party, Lalhmingthanga have accused the Congress and the MNF ministries of neglecting villages lying on the borders of Myanmar and Manipur resluting in great hardships for the people of these villages.

Lalhmingthanga, giving a report of his tour of Champhai, Ngur, Vapar, Hnahlan and Tualcheng during October 9 and 10, said the people of these villages had informed him of their hardships resulting from the power tariff hike in the state.

He said the villagers in this area had told him that even when they have power, they have it during the daytime and not at night and this too for only 10 to 15 days in a month.

They have also informed me that the government had all year long did not allocate any funds which could be utilised by the villagers through labour work, Hminga said.

"They told me that all works are gobbled up by party workers from the city and we never get a chance to see development funds," he said.

The opposition leader also said that while schemes had been finalised in 1980 - during his term as a PWD minister - to construct good roads to connect these villages, other ministries had not taken the trouble to take them up resulting in barely negotiable road for light vehicles only even after 20 years have elapsed.

Even the health and education areas in these villages is insufficient because of this neglect, he said, demanding that the government take action.
