5 more VCs in the offing; VCs will now total 532
Aizawl Oct 13 : The Mizoram government has passed yet another order to create 5 more new Village Councils before the October 30 elections, bringing the total of new VCs from 23 to 28.
The five new Village Councils are Zodin in Tlabung, Lunglei district, New Champhai, Champhai district, Chekkawn, Serchhip district, Kolasib VII, Kolasib district and Tuiral Airfield, Aizawl district.
In the meantime, the government have cancelled the Cabinet's decision to abolish the New Chalrang VC which will again operate as a separate VC as before.
The total Village Councils in the state districtwise stands now at Aizawl distirict - 165, Lunglei district, 129, Champhai district - 92, Mamit district - 67, Serchhip district - 40 and Kolasib district - 39.
Since Lawngtlai, Saiha and Chawngte are all under autonomous district councils, they do not have separate VCs under the Mizoram government.With the new 5 additional Village Councils, the total number of village councils in the state has come to 532. There will be a total of 2340 members in these village councils.
Preparations for the VC elections is being carried out by the Local Administration Department and the first of election personnel trainings will be held on Tuesday in various districts.
The LAD officials have said their offices will be opened on all days except for Sundays. This has been initiated to sort out any problems that may arise for the coming VC elections and people are welcome to approach the offices.
