Zoramthanga grateful to Centre for fund allocations
Aizawl Oct 11:Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga expressed his gratitude to the Centre for giving special treatment to the state in respect of allocation of funds and in recognising the state�s status as the most peaceful in the region.
Speaking at a public reception at Champhai on Wednesday, the chief minister explained how various favours had been bestowed to the state by the Central government.
"The Union government, recognising the peacefulness of the state, and to give incentives to other states in the Northeaast to cease hostilities and armed conflict, have bestowed upon us special favours in the form of grants and fund allocations as central assistance. These have been utilised for the development of the state which will benefit the masses."
Talking about how funds under the PMGSY, Rural Connectivity and other various schemes have come pouring into the state, chief minister Zoramthanga said the Union Rural Development minister had instructed him to prepare a plan under the Rural Connectivity scheme for the amount of Rs 100 crore.
"As a result, roads, the backbone of development, will soon crisscross the state, bringing development to every village within a short span of time," he said.
Large quantity of liquor seized during September
Aizawl Oct 11 :According to a government statement issued today, a total of 302 liquor vendors were arrested and some 3824 litres of locally brewed liquor seized during September by a combined force of the Excise and police personnel.
Even though a total liquor prohibition is in place in the state, the Mizoram Excise and police still manage to seize a large quantity of both local and foreign liquor every month.
During September alone, according to the government statement, a total 452 750 ml capacity bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) liquor were seized while more than half of this in 375 capacity bottles were also seized.
Apart from the IMFL and local brewed liquor, 13,701 tins of fermented rice, which was to be distilled into local liquor were also seized.
Chama opens YMA Sanctuary
Aizawl Oct 11 : Environment & Forest minister Lalchamliana opened the YMA Sanctuary of Sihphir Vengthar YMA branch Thursday and was accompanied by a number of press men.
This sanctuary, also called a Mini Zoo, is located in the Sihphir village area near the Tuirial river, about 35 km from Aizawl.
The Sihphir Village Council and the village�s YMA members had started on this sanctuary about seven years back because the land was inhabitated by a diverse wildlife population.
The sanctuary, about seven square km, is guarded by volunteers of the Sihphir YMA members from hunters which has resulted in plentiful wildlife, both fauna and flora.
Mizoram Assembly session from Nov 18
Aizawl Oct 11 : The Mizoram govenor have called the Winter session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly to convene on November 18, 2002.
Accordingly, the Business Advisory Committee will chalk out the programme for the session.
This session wil be the 13th sitting of the 4th Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
