Elaborating on the allegation, a press release of the MPCC said the MNF party has started misusing the Food for Work Programme at Serchhip just as it had misused government funds during the 1999 VC elections.

"Just as government funds had been misused by the MNF to gather votes in the 1999 VC elections, it has started misusing the Food for Work programme at Serchhip town by forming self styled committees through which foodgrains are being taken out of godowns," the MPCC said.

Requesting government officials to take utmost care in this matter, the Congress said if the MNF party can employ such tactics to gather votes, it would also form committees and take out the foodgrains from the godowns.
