Green Mizoram Movement general assembly held at Lunglei
Aizawl Oct 06:The Green Mizoram Movement organisation held its general assembly at its registered headquarters at Lunglei Saturday.
The GMM general assembly, hled at the Lunglei district Deputy Commissioner�s conference hall discussed the dangers in the use of pesticides and insecticides.
The Green Mizoram Movement Treasurer Lalrammawia Chawngthu, giving a report, said it is better not to consume fish, crabs and prawns that hvae been caught with the use of pesticides and insecticides as also those vegetables that have been sprayed with DDT as these can prove harmful to humans.
The Green Mizoram Movement was formed by a group of college teachers dedicated to environment protection.
New VCs to total 23 with 4 more new Village Councils
Aizawl Oct 06:The Council of Ministers have passed chief minister Zoramthanga�s resolution to create 4 more new village councils, bringing the total of new VCs in recent times to 23.
The new VCs okayed by the CoM are two from Zembawk VC, which is to be tirfurcated into Zemabawk, Zemabawk North and Falkland Veng, one from Kolasib IV, also called New Diakkawn and one from Chhingchhip, which is to be bifurcated to Chhingchhip and Mualpui VCs.
The new VCs, except for New Diakkawn, which is under the Kolasib district, are in Aizawl district.
The last Cabinet meeting had passed the creation of 19 new Village Councils in the state.
The Village Council elections will take place on October 30, 2002.
Special E/roll revision to be carried out
Aizawl Oct 06:As directed by the Election Commission to 22 states, Mizoram will also carry out a special electoral roll revision which is to be ready by January 6, 2003.
The special revision of e/rolls is to be carried out so as to enable persons having attained the age of 18 years in January 2003 to be included in electoral rolls that are to be used in the coming state MLA elections.
The existing electoral roll will now be considered as a draft roll and will be posted for public examination on November 7, 2002.
Additions and complaints, if any, can be done after this date upto November 30, 2002.
On November 9, 22 and 23, awareness campaigns will be undertaken for the public.
According to the EC schedule, the final electoral roll will be finalised on January 4, 2003 and given for printing on January 6, 2003.
AIR Aizawl have reported that issuance of the Electoral Photo Identity Cards will be done on the basis of this new electoral roll.
2003 participates in stamp designing
Aizawl Oct 6:The Postal department�s U-17 postage design competition on Saturday had 2003 participants, all of whom were school students.
The top 10 will be awarded prizes while the top 3 will participate in the regional competition to be held in Shillong.
The top three in the regional competition will go on to the national level competition.
Scouts & Guides perform community work
Aizawl Oct 04: Mizoram Scouts & Guides movement members, under the leadership of their Chief Commissioner J Lalhmingliana, collected rubbish and other wastes in the city Friday morning in continuance of the Cleanliness Week inaugurated on Tuesday.
The drive today was taken up to promote sanitation to the public and was organised jointly the state Bharat Scouts and Guides and the LAD Sanitation Wing.
Around 200 scouts and guides came out for the community work today.
