The Golden-winged Skimmer male has an orange face, stigma, wing veins and abdomen. In females and young males, those areas are yellow and there are two stripes on each side of the thorax. They perch on weed tips at water's edge.

Habitat: grassy ponds and lakes

Great Plains Range: TX, OK, KS, NE, MO

Flight season: June to August
