Some Poetry:

While we would love to post submissions on this site, doing so would be unfair to the authors (who have a right to choose whether or not their work goes public) and also to the magazine (who would buy a magazine that is already posted for free on the internet). No, it simply wouldn't do to post our submissions on the site.
For the moment, this section of the site will be dedicated to displaying one of our magazine's most hallowed traditions, the "Exquisite Corpse". Now, there has been a deal of confusion this year as to whether thats actually the name, and some maintain that it is actually "Elusive Crypt" or some combination of the two. "Exquisite Corpse" is in fact correct. Actually, the name and practice both have interesting histories in and outside of Spectator. For more information, click on the "About the Corpse" link below.

Anyway, whatever its name, it is a poem formed by passing around a sheet of paper to every member, who proceeds to write two lines, having read only the last line written. We generally write one at the close of every meeting, and here are a few examples.

The Year's First Corpse (October 20, 2008):

Too Beautiful to be Without

We were both young when I first saw you
Closed my eyes and the flashback started
A flash of lights back and forth, in and out
Though the years pass, you are a tombstone in my soul
Inscribed forever in my heart,
Leave my memories all behind
In the Darkest Depths of the ocean
The fish finds himself lost,
Far from the warm, torquoise ocean he calls home
His deep voice carries hope across the valley
High in the clouds, unable to be shot down
Unable to be forgotten
Too beautiful to be without
Like the leaves in Autumn
Or gently falling snow
Upon the green rolling hills when we grow up
But our minds never matured with our bodies
In our youthful days, we never noticed
The difference between playing and the real world
Oh so interesting!
Oh how loved she is!
How many times have you skipped class?
Good question
As is life.
