- Can a Tremere ritual be cast on someone else, such as Pavis?
- Not unless the ritual states it can be. A ritual which states it affects the caster or thaumaturgists means it affects the one who did the ritual. A ritual which states it affects a target, affects a target character, which might be someone else. Or in other words, Pavis may not be cast on someone else.
- Can I activate Telepathy and then keep it going if the target leaves the room and I don't follow?
- You must maintain some sort of "line of sense" with the target. Blinking isn't a problem. Someone bobbing around isn't much of a problem. Leaving the place and going someone else is a problem. Getting around that is what the Elder power Telepathic Communication does.
- How many of the Principal Focus of Vitae Infusion beads can you have made at any one time?
- There is no limit - but frequently regional events and ICC will limit the number of blood pool that is brought in either to equal your blood pool or half.
- Can I use my Potence to help me in stage 4 of diablerie?
- No, you cannot. In all of the descriptions of the Potence disciplines, it is clearly indicated that they only work with strength based challenges. While stage 4 of diablorie (the actual sucking of the soul) requires a physical challenge, it is obvious that this is not a strength related challenge. Therefore, you cannot use any of the Potence disciplines in your diablorie attempt, other than to pound the individual into torpor.
- Can I use Engulf through Clairovyance?
- No, Auspex is usable through Clairvoyance.
- One character summons another. Both use Obfuscate to hide themselves. Neither has the ability to pierce the other's obfuscate. Neither wishes to drop their obfuscate. What happens?
- The summoned must present themselves to summoner But if he is not able to find the summoned to present themselves to, then I would hazard that they would go there, wander around for a bit and then leave if they wished. But this one has a number of situations which could drastically alter the outcome. See the narrator on the scene for his decision for a particular situation.
- How do Pavis of the Foul Presence and Summon interact?
- Easy. If Pavis is activated, then Summon is reflected and the Summoner has just summoned himself. Ditto for Dread Gaze, Entracement. (See the text in Laws of the Night Revised. The text in the old LotN could be interpeted different ways.)
- My gangrel can do four aggravated damage in Wolf Form with Maw, right?
- Wrong. If you read Maw in the Gangrel Clanbook, it states that it makes the base damage for a bite 2. The wolf form base damage is 2. 2=2=2. If you have puissance, that's 3. Maw is a flaw which has a slight bonus (you can bite for 2 aggravated in homid form, instead of just wolf form.) The gangrel animal trait merits are actually flaws which give a limited advantage in some situations. All of them should really be a pain to have as a character. More fun that way.
- Will Chimerstry work against devices?
- Yes, as long as the Chimerstry is of the type that works against everybody and not just one person. See Chimerstry in both the tabletop main book (VRev) and the revised clanbook.
- If chimestry is filmed does the effect fade from the footage by the next evening?
- The tabletop materials (VRev, etc.) indicate that Chimerstry can indeed fool equipement.
The question is more of a situational call. Chimerstry is basically related (but not identical to) the chimerical creations of the Changelings. Basically, when a Ravnos creates a chimerical object, it is real to the the changelings and exists even after the Ravnos dismisses it.
I've taken that and applied some of the banality interactions with chimera. Sometimes photographs or video of chimerstry may show the creations as looking a bit fake, and/or eventually fade.
Make a judgement call based on story - if it is going to fade fast, that's a lot of banality to account for. I can see the effect fading quickly, fading slowly and even never fading. As a default, I would say it wouldn't fade.
- Does Posession end after one scene/hour? Does Earth Meld end after one scene/hour?
- The text in both implies that it lasts longer. Possession ends when the Kindred sleeps or voluntarily releases it. Earth Meld implies that it can be used to sleep with. Neither is explicit about it. There are another handful that the same question can be asked about, such as Heart of Darkness
- When a vampire possesses someone, who's aura is visible?
- The vampire's aura. However, I would say that with Aura Perception, you if you knew about Posession, you could ask to see what the aura under the possession looked like, or for evidence of Posession.
- If if a vampire with diablerie streaks were to possess someone, the diablerie streaks would be visisble?
- Yes.
- What would a BSD's aura look like? Could a vampire tell it was "evil" with Aura Perception?
- I don't think a thing like that would be visible in the aura. At best, if it was being checked for, the presence of derangements could be detected - but that's not going to tell much. The determination of "evil" vs "good" appears to reserved to the Master level Auspex power, Karmic Sight.
- Blood Rage is mentioned as being able to raise a vampire from torpor. Can that be performed immediately after going to torpor?
- Blood Rage allows you to control blood expenditure. The earliest a vampire can wake from a torpor is the limit mentioned under voluntary torpor. If performed in the same round as a torporing blow to heal beyond what a vampire could normally heal, I would probably allow it to stave off torpor.
- If someone has had their heart removed and they have Aegis, does that stop the destruction effects listed in Heart of Darkness?
- If the Heart is left in sunlight, the character can certainly spend Aegis to live for one turn, and then again for another turn. It quickly becomes pointless. Throwing the heart onto a fire is very similiar.
- What if the Setite was trying to stake the heart? Could Aegis be used then?
- Not unless the target knew that the Setite was going to stake them that specfic turn. Aegis is retroactive on damage (even from destruction which is why the sunlight thing works for one turn), but it won't remove side-effects like staking. Also the reason why the lower powers of Fortitude are not relevant in either situation.
- Isn't destroying a heart a one-shot kill and therefore not allowed?
- No, the character had to willingly allow someone to remove their heart over an hour. TANSTAAFL.
- Can I lower the generation of my characer with Potency of Blood and then pump up to the new attribute limits?
- Read Vampire 5.1, chapter 4. Potency of Blood does not give certain elements - trait maximums's being one of them.
- Can Incorpeal Passage be used on ceilings and floors?
- The answer depends greatly on the situation. By reading the ritual description, I can see possible situations where I would allow that as a narrator, and other times where I would not.
- What approval level would a NPC Nosferatu in the Cam-Anarch venue with out-of-clan Viscisstude be?
- For a NPC in the Cam-Anarch venue that would be at least High approval. Storytellers, please use the approvals website.
- To learn Fortitude, will the student have to imbibe a trait of blood?
- No - that's a rule from 4.5/4.7. In 5.0/5.1, the cardinal eight do not have that requirement (see LotNRev.)
- What approval level are Necromancy paths not in LotNRev?
- The only Necromancy Path which is not in LotNRev that we have is play is the Mortuus Path, which is listed as Top approval in Vampire 5.1. Any other path from another source would be new mechanics (until they are brought into Vampire chapter 5.)
- Can you use Possession on a Garou?
- LotNRev pretty clearly spells out that you can't possess a supernatural creature.
- If the silver cord is cut on Psychic Projection, can someone use Summon to retrieve the lost soul?
- The high umbra is frequently a dangerous place. Unless the summoned has some
clue of how to navigate the high umbra and knows how to recognize and avoid the
dangerous places in the high umbra and can get manage to find a safe path
through and understands how to get back, then it's possible. Summing up: A
fairly strong &qout;no".
- If a Vessal of Transference is triggered, does it trigger one trait at a time, or the whole thing?
- After reading the text in 5.1 and tabletop, both trigger the entire vessel.
- If the damage from staking is negated, can the staking take place?
- No, per 5.1. If you are going to use Aegis to do that, you need to do it before the staking tests. Doing it afterwards will only negate the damage, not the staking.
- If I am using both hands with claws, can I use the two weapon rules?
- No. Brawl assumes that you are using everything at your disposal, including hands, feet, head, elbows. Same thing applies to normal brawl attacks.
- Prime 5.1, says I can specialize in Feral Claws. That feels too general. Is that ok?
- Almost - it needs to be something which cannot be used in nearly all situations. Specializing in homid feral claws is clearly ok. Specizliaing in fighting claws in wolf form is clearly ok. There are an infinite number of situations where it would be specialized enough.
- How long will a Splinter Servant run around if it can't catch the person?
- Unless the ritual explicitly states otherwise, use a limit of one scene/hour.
- Is it possible to have the benefits of Rapidity when firing a gun?
- Yes, but you must meet the requirements for Rapidity to be effective, of course.
- Mirror Reflexes will prevent a specfic opponent from using a retest. Will that stop them from canceling a retest?
- If you look at the description of "canceling" in Prime, it states that to cancel, you must be able to use the retest that you will be canceling with.
- Can "A Taste for Vitae" detect clan?
- It doesn't list clan and there is a ritual (Bloodwalk) that can do that. Suggest the ritual to the players. I can see the discipline-path doing a few interesting things as situational calls, but that's another subject.
- Would a Warding Circle versus Wraiths work again a Risen?
- A Risen is still a Wraith - I would have it be effective. In other words, follow the rules for a Warding Circle.
- If my Tzimisce goes into Bloodform, I can force myself down someone's throat and reform inside their stomach and burst out and kill them like Neo in the end of Matrix, right?
- If you enter them you will be consumed by the victim like the vitae that you are. You might get a nice ghoul out of the deal after you die, however.
- If you use Clairvoyance on someone who is possessing a ghoul, which do you see? The ghoul or the empty body?
- I would say that as Auspex focuses on auras and the intanglies such as the soul, that it would see the ghoul. Same sort of question with Astral Projection. Do you see the
projection or the empty body? Besides, doing otherwise would make it too easy for the
Clairvoyance person to find the body and nab it.
- Can I combine Shaft of Belated Quiescence with a Ward?
- In general, I would say it won't be very effective, for as the Shaft is used, it breaks apart and that should end the ward.
- Can I combine Splinter Servent with a Ward?
- In general, most ST's will require that the wards be on rigid materials. I'd say a situational call. In general, I would be disinclined to allow the ward to continue after the servant had been activated. (Oddly enough, the current writeup of Servant doesn't require "speech" to activate it anymore.)
- Can I ward cloth or clothing?
- Generally I'd say no, citing that rigid materials rule of thumb mentioned above. However, it's a situational call.
- Can I combine Belated Quiescence, Ward and Talisman Dedication?
- In general, I would say that the breaking apart of the object, would render the Ward and Talisman no longer effective. A situational call.
- Can animals or children see through obfuscate? I've seen a number of house rules over the years that say they can. I've also heard that they are uncomfortable but don't directly detect the obfuscated individual. The description in LOTN:R doesn't seem to
mention animals or children
- This is a question I would suggest asking on rulescircle and vampire-rules...
Depending on the situation, I would generally allow an animal to be a bit freaked out, but not specifically point out an intruder (too easy of a negation of a discipline.)
Depending on the situation, I might let a pariticular child on a particular night be able to see right through any obfuscate, but maybe it wouldn't work the next next... In other words, it would be quite hard to make it a PC tool, but extremely useful as a plot point.
Your mileage may vary.
- If someone is standing in a bit of water and under obfuscate, are they automatically detectable - i.e feet shaped holes in the water? Same question for a mist in the air.
- Nope, you won't see feet shaped holes in the water. However, if they move too quickly, they will most likely make themselves appear.
Obfuscate is a mental invisibility, not a physical one. Beaded curtains will not violate obfuscate (but running through them will.) Running alone will violate obfuscate. Snow will not violate obfuscate, but after the obfuscated person leaves, you might notice the footprints. Splashing paint around the room will not violate obfuscate, but later on the obfuscated person will have to clean themselves off and you might notice the clean spot on the floor where they stood after they leave.
- If someone vanished last turn, can I turn a Splinter Servant loose on them?
- You have to be able to pick out the target somehow to activate one. I'd put it under the same limitations that disciplines are per LotNRev. You must be able to sense the target someone, which means you'll have to defeat the Obfuscate first.
- What if someone vanishes after I turn a Splinter Servant loose on them?
- This is a good one. Splinter Servant isn't an obfuscate buster. However, I would say that it would still go after them, but you would ignore any evidance that the Splinter Servant demonstrates as to their position, etc., due to the Obfuscate. That may mean that it looks like the Splinter Servant is wandering around confused, or it vanishes as well, or any other number of possibilties. Time for a situational call.
- What about Blood Contract? LotNRev states that aggravated damage beyond incapacitated does not send one to torpor, instead it destroys them. Is that a one-shot kill?
- In this case, I'd say the rules for Blood Contract override that. Blood Contract will put you to torpor without destroying you. That isn't a one-shot kill either - as the character had to willingly sign the contract first.
- Is Awe usable with Summon?
- This is a situational call, not a ruling. If you look at Presence in LotNRev, it describes Prescence (in general) as requiring the user's face to be visible (p 167.) This requirement should be compared to the situation that Summon and Awe is being used in.
- What disciplines can you use while staked? Especially Aupex. Is a
staked vampire conscious or unconscious? What is the effect of blood
bonds and conditioning times on a staked vampire?
- Unless the discipline states you can use it while staked, I would say none. Staking completely paralyzes the vampire, but does not render them unconscious. Torpor will
render them unconscious.
I can see the use of purely sensory disciplines in some cases (as long as they don't require touch, movement, blood or willpower.) For example: Heightened Senses. Maybe Aura Perception. Maybe Spirit's Touch (if someone places the object in their hand.) I wouldn't allow them to initiate Telepathy (but they might be able to talk back if someone else used it.) Definitely NO to Psychic Projection.
A staked vampire is conscious, but is completely paralyzed.
Blood bonding will be physically difficult, but not impossible with someone who is staked. There is no swallowing while staked.
Conditioning is a two way street - consider it to look sort of like someone hypnotizing someone else for a long period of time. "Your will is mine. ::dazedly:: My will is yours." If they were staked, I would require a minimum of Telepathy to even begin unless they were going to unstake them .
Keep in mind: Someone who is conditioned is rather obvious to other kindred and can't teach anything.
- If someone has Majesty up, can I walk ten paces and then shoot?
- Deciding to walk ten paces to do that sounds awfully offensive to me. I'd require the character to break Majesty first to do that.
