Rules and Setting Questions and Answers

These are frequent questions and answers related to the rules and setting. They are not rulings and are not modifications to rules, but offer insights into a consistant basis for interpetation of the World of Darkness for this region. Most of these have been made with consultation with our NST and the other RST's. Others are commentary on mis-read rules which make for frequent questions.

A majority of these are taken from answers in the RST report to questions from CST's and DST's.

Changeling

Can I purchase intermediate or advanced arts with negative traits?
In Shining Host, it gives the specific list of what can be purchased with negative traits. Neither Prime 5.1, nor Changeling 5.0 modify that (current rule supplements as of Aug-2001). Intermediate and advanced arts are not on the list, only basic arts are on the list. Not allowed.

Do the changeling kith advantages go over trait maximums?
They are stated to do so in Changeling 5.0, section 2.1.

House Scathach is listed with High approval. Does that really a cover commoner kith sworn as part of House Scathach?
Yes, House Scathach is a rare house. The same applies to the unseelie houses.

What rules should I use to create a kinain or a kinain retainer?
For a kinain - NPC's, retainers or PC's - all use the same rules. Use Mortals 5.0, Prime 5.1, Laws of the Hunt. Use Shining Host and Laws of the Hunt Players Guide for supplemental material. For retainers, keep in mind that the retainer rules in Prime apply.

Does the Fae Power Class increase the realm requirements to target the changeling?
The Power Class is an OOC mechanic that doesn't really have an corresponding IC item. If the target is a commoner or a lofty noble, then the target requires that realm to affect it.

My changeling character swears to a member of House Scathatch. Do I need RST approval?
No. Your character hasn't joined the house, just sworn fealty. If they were one and the same, then every Duke in the region would be Dougal as the Queen in Dougal. As every Duke is Dougal, then every Count will be Dougal and so on, until every Squire in the entire region is Dougal. These are quite different things. Most characters of Knight rank (and nearly all that are higher) which are commoner, are sworn to one House or another. It gives the Sidhe one more way to hold power over the commoners, even the titled ones.
