RETREAT AT CRESSING 1808
This was our second  Napoleonic Association Wargame Demo Team's scenario using  our own version of  British Army 'Kriegsspiel' 1815 Draft Rules at 'Attack' Devizes on 12 July 2008.

We will probably not be running this one again, so will be able to soon upload it to this website. We used members of the host  Devizes Club as the off-table playing commanding for the  Red and Blue Brigades  occassionaly disturbing them  for five minutes every 30-60 minutes. The roll of Battery, Battalion and Squadron commanders was taken by members of the public with knowledge of the principles of Napoleonic warfare and able to spare a few minutes to take part in the game. The game started at 10am and reached result by 3pm, but without stopping to explain the game to members of public could have been easily played in 2 hours.

The idea behind scenario was that the previous day the Red Army had smashed through the centre of the Blue Army in the Battle of Braintree July 1808. The Blue Brigade on the left flank were  not involved in the battle, but have been cut off and forced to retreat south. The objective of the Red Brigade is to try to stop them retreating.

The map covers the area to west of Cressing and Cressing Temple, with the bottom left corner  one mile south each of Cressing Temple, the River Blackwater just off top edge of the map and Felix Hall on east edge of the map. Player were given copy of the David Charles First Edition Colchester sheet 64 (Sheets 167-8 of Cassini Old Series 1805 map). The game was played on sheets printed from the Old-Map site and covered 45"x36" concentrating on area to west of players maps.

Good luck !!
