ENGAGEMENT AT CRESSING 1808
The first Napoleonic Association Wargame Demo Team's outing for our own version of  British Army 'Kriegsspiel' 1815 Draft Rules was at the International Napoleonic Fiar, Cressing Temple, Essex on the 10-11 May 2008.

We ran the Cressing Scenario again at the Napoleonic Association Re-enactment event at Newstead Abbey over the late May Bank Holidday 2008 with the players commanding the Red and Blue Brigades taking part in other games or actives through out the day and being occassionaly disturbed for five minutes every 30-60 minutes. The roll of Battery, Battalion and Squadron commanders was taken by members of the public with knowledge of the principles of Napoleonic warfare and able to spare a few minutes to take part in the game.

The idea behind scenario is that the Blue Army have marched from Colchester to attack the Red Army defending Braintree. The blue player commands a brigade on the left flank of Blue army, while the red player's brigade is on the right flank of the Red Army. The make up and objectives  of each brigades is different but the scenario should result in an engagement. The game should take 2-3 hours with two to four players and two umpires. If either player achieves their objective they win the game.

The map covers the area to west of Cressing and Cressing Temple, with the bottom left corner  one mile south each of Cressing Temple, the River Blackwater just off top edge of the map and Felix Hall on east edge of the map. Player were given copy of the David Charles First Edition Colchester sheet 64 (Sheets 167-8 of Cassini Old Series 1805 map). The game was played on sheets printed from the Old-Map site and covered 45"x36" concentrating on area to west of players maps.

Good luck !!
