After what has been an extremely tiring time at work, Steve and I decided to take a break from reality and travel to Guatemala. Once there, we became green-bellied avocado eaters while I practiced my Spanglish. It amazed me how a seven hour flight was able to take us to volcanos, stunning lakes and Mayan ruins surrounded by tucans and monkeys. While one week was certainly short, we got a thorough view of this small intriguing country. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a scenic vacation.

Like any good gringos, we started our trip in Guatemala in picturesque Antigua. The picture above marks one of the most classic views of the city. One can find many paintings in Guatemala that show this scene. Below was where we spent our first two nights in Guatemala. Interestingly enough, the bar next door (el Monoloco) provided the most intense group of Red Sox fans outside of Boston. Strange indeed!

Although the market in Antigua did not supply much in interesting shopping, it made for an extremely colorful scene.
