INFORMATION ABOUT THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER II

 

Keynote Speaker for the Conference is Professor Dr Mohd Yusof Othman. He is a Professor of Physics at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Director of the Institute of Islam Hadhari (Civilisational Islam) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM, National University of Malaysia). He took his first degree in Physics in UKM (1972-1976) and later graduated in Masters of Science in the field of Solid State Physics from Bedford College, University of London in 1977. He read for his PhD at University of Aston, United Kingdom from 1980-1984. A distinguished scholar, he has written 20 books in the field of physics, solar energy and other topics related to his fields of interest. He is also the Chief Editor in Siri Wacana Sejarah dan Falsafah Sains (series on historical discourse and philosophy of science), published by the national language and literary body, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.

Outside his work in science and work at the Institute of Islam Hadhari, he is an Honorary Fellow at the Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia) since 2005 as well as the Chief Editor of the Journal HADHARI. He is involved in Islam Hadhari programmes and National Integrity Programmes of the National Integrity Institute of Malaysia and his opinions are sought after by the media. In acknowledgment of his contributions, Professor Yusof was presented the National Maal Hijrah Award for the year 1427H (2006), Penang Maal Hijrah Award 1429H (2008), WREN PIONEER Award from World Renewable Energy Council/Network, and Outstanding Scientist Award from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (2004 and 2005). In 1993, he was conferred the Darjah Kesatria Mangku Negara by the King.
