National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC) - Founded in 1998 by 12 cultural and multicultural sororities and fraternities
National American Greek Council (NAGC) - Founding information is unpublished; composed of cultural and multicultural sororities and fraternities

Local

Local multicultural Greek councils have contributed to the identity crisis of multicultural sororities. Within many college Greek Life offices, Multicultural Greek Councils (MGCs), Inter-Greek Councils (IGCs) and other catch-all councils have cropped up. These councils serve an important function in bringing publicity to smaller and newer organizations and bringing the organizations together in the spirit of Greek unity, but uninformed people mistakenly clump all the organizations together in one overall category when that is not appropriate.

In a given council, you could have:

NPHC sororities and fraternities - cultural organizations geared toward working in the Black communities
Latina sororities and fraternities - cultural organizations geared toward working in Latino/a communities
Asian-interest sororities and fraternities...and so on

These councils also serve multicultural sororities and fraternities! It is understandably confusing.
