Introduction

<> This lesson was developed in the course Teaching with WebQuests , a course offered by the Teacher Education Institute .

With the volumes of information available on the Internet and with our students propensity to turn to the Internet for their every need, it is critical that we teach them that not all websites are created equal.  Just because a website is listed first in a Google search does not mean that it is the best or most reliable source of information.

This lesson is designed to provide students the opportunity to independently evaluate a website's authority, its content and its design and technical features.  There are additional criteria that can be used in website evaluation, but I have selected these three as the most critical for use in a school setting.

Prior to using this webquest students will have had guided practice in conducting a website evaluation based on the above criteria.  Links to website evaluation forms and other supporting materials will be found in the Resources section.
