Our last destination is where Marianne was an au pair. We were picked up at the train station by Christiane Lauer and spent our time playing with the kids, visiting old places and friends.

We took a tour of nearby Bad Durkheim and learned about the rich culture of vineyards and wine throughout the history of the area. The Bad Durkheimer Wurstmarkt is the world's largest wine festival and, how handy, it was happening the weekend we were there! The fountain highlights the festival. Note the friar with the overflowing cup, and the family going together to the festival.
We had a great time eating Greek food with Marianne's friends form the young single adult group in Worms. Pictured here are Marianne, Isabel, Kris, Swen, and Thomas. The next night we went with the Lauers to the Wurstmarkt Festival. We went on rides and ate a lot of goodies. Pictured below are Gerhard, Johannes, Tabea, Christiane, Sorana, and Jonathan.
Besides people drinking ghastly amounts of alcohol, there were some fun rides - one of them was the Marianne-spinner-thinger. We also went on the Riesenrad ferris wheel. Although we are trying to look happy, we are very high and kind of scared!

The night ended with groggy children and some warm Dampfnudel. The next day Marianne and I went on a 'bike ride' with the kids and sampled hundreds of different grapes from the nearby vineyards.
Besided blue mouths, we also had a great time. It was hard to say goodbye to the people and land we love so well, but Provo and our plane tickets were beckoning us homeward.
