RITCHIE LEFT 'PENNILESS'
Shane Richie says he was nearly left bankrupt by a film he produced and starred in with Joely Richardson.
He invested every penny he had into the movie called Shoreditch, which is finally set to make its premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
But the actor says he would have been left in serious debt if he had not landed his new role in EastEnders.
Now he wakes up every morning saying to himself "you lucky tart", he tells the Daily Mirror.
"I have to pinch myself because playing Alfie Moon on Britain's biggest soap is the ultimate dream job and all of a sudden I'm getting a regular salary," he says.
"Last summer my car was repossessed, I couldn't pay the mortgage for a year on my house - I kept blagging it and saying I was on tour.
"My credit cards were all up to their limit and bailiffs were threatening to come round over a 2,000 bill I hadn't settled," says the actor.
Stars rally for the troops
Shane Richie, who plays Queen Vic landlord Alfie Moon in EastEnders, is hoping to boost the morale of British service men and women serving in the Gulf.
The entertainer is joining a selection of stars in a special show which is being filmed in London this weekend as a show of support for British troops.
It will then be immediately shipped out to the Middle East where some 50,000 troops are expected to watch the show on DVD.
