DOOR STRIP DOWN & REBUILD
Here's a stripped door. Now is
when you want to do any
bodywork to it. You can see
some rust where the scrapers go.
I sprayed the inside of the door
with "Cold Galvinzing" paint for
added rust protection.
Here's the door upside-down.
There was more rust on the
bottom lip where the door seal is
pressed into. After fixing the
area I drilled 2 more drain
holes. Make sure they are clear.
You want to let the water drip
out if it gets in through the top.
See John Henry's detailed write up on doors for more info.
NOTE:Some replacement parts may need trimming, adjusting, etc, unless they were
bought from VW. Don't buy cheap parts! I tried it and ended up trashing the new parts and
buying better quality from a trusted vendor (BFY, WW or RMW).
Here's he order I found to be used in the strip-down process for my 1977's
doors:

**Door weather strip
Inside handles
Door panel
Felt glass channel
Main window glass
Vent (wing) window assembly
Inside scraper
Felt channel clips (hold outside scraper trim)
Outside scraper
Regulator
*Outside handle
*Inside release lever and linkage
*Rear glass channel guide, back end of door, secured lower end
*Latch mechanism and striker plate (on B pillar)
*Door stop lever (check rod)

(The installation order would be in reverse)

* = These items I installed in the above order, but I don't think I matters in respect to
'scraper installation'
**= Independent item, when installed won't affect anything else.
