Practical Magic Rated PG-13 Starring: Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Aidan Quinn Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars (out of 5) Kid Quotient: 4 (out of 10) Violence and frightening scenes Buy this title
More enjoyable than I'd expected, a brilliant cast pounds out the tale of a family of witches afflicted with a curse which causes the untimely death of any man unlucky enough to fall in love with one of the alluring females. Casting is right on and results in some memorable performances. Story lags at times and I occasionally found my mind wandering, but this is still a good rent and an especially fun choice for those in a Halloween mood but looking for something other than the usual slasher/horror fare.

Random Hearts Rated PG-13 Starring Harrison Ford Movie-Lite Rating: 2 1/2 stars (out of 5) Kid Quotient: 4 (out of 10) adult themes, not interesting for kids Buy Movie
It's rare for me to have anything negative to say about a Harrison Ford film. (Ok, there's Mosquito Coast, but we won't go there.) This one sadly is the exception. The concept is intriguing: a man (Ford) and woman ( ) are thrown together when their spouses are killed in a plane crash.and discover they had been involved in an affair with each other. The cast seems up to the task. But the script just can't seem to rise to the challenge.
The Replacements ...Rated PG-13 Starring: Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman Movie-Lite Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Kid Quotient: 4 out of 10: Fight scenes and some sexual situations BUY SOUNDTRACK
Absolutely NO new plays in this game, but the tried-and-true formula of an underdog team overcoming adversity is a satisfying solution for those in search of light, non-intellectual entertainment. Nicely scripted, well acted, and most of the humor is well timed (though occasionally "tries" too hard and goes over the top). Worth seeing for "feel good" fans.
Runaway Bride Rated R Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Joan Cusack Movie-Lite Rating: 4 stars (out of 5) Kid Quotient: 6 (out of 10) boring subject matter for younger kids.Buy Movie
The dynamic duo of Roberts and Gere team up again in a romance determined to be the summer's feel-good flick. Roberts, always the bride but never wed, becomes the focus of reporter Gere determined to cover the story when Roberts next flees the altar. The usual onscreen chemistry is apparent, Cusack has a great supporting role, and this one is definitely worth seeing and had moviehouses packed constantly in my area.
Rush Hour Rated R Starring: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars (out of 5) Kid Quotient: 5 (out of 10) Violence and language. Buy Movie Buy Soundtrack
Chan and Tucker make an unlikely but amusing duet in this comedic action flick. Tucker plays an LAPD cop who, against his will, is paired with an Asian counterpart cop (Chan) on an investigation. Together the two must discover both how to trust a partner and the whereabouts of a kidnapped girl. Lots of laughter, Tucker does an admirable job, and Chan's stunts are as brilliant as ever. I was disappointed to find the action sequences so few and far between, however. Don't be in a rush to hit the rewind button on this one...some of the best stuff is during the end credits while they show the blooper outtakes.
