Not just another "Jaws", this one has some plot twists and superior special effects sufficient to keep some moviegoers out of their bathtubs for a while!
Disturbing Behavior Rated R Katie Holmes, Nick Stahl, James Marsden Movie-Lite Rating: 2 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 3 (out of 10) Violence and psychodrama themes BUY MOVIE BUY SOUNDTRACK
This "Stepford Wives" takeoff is touted as a horror flick, but is more of a psychological thriller. Marsden plays the new kid on the block who befriends another teen (Stahl). Stahl is convinced there is a conspiracy in town involving the head-of-the-class town elite students, who are mysteriously changing. Marsden is skeptical until his friend becomes a victim, then it becomes up to him to save the day. The movie itself was entertaining to watch, but culminated in a disappointing 2-minute ending. Katie Holmes who was billed as one of the film's "stars" was little more than a tag-along who captures the hero's heart.
Doctor Dolittle...Rated PG-13 Starring Eddie Murphy Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 8 out of 10--Great for kids of all ages, though teens may not find it "cool" enough BUY MOVIE
The 90's version of the classic, Doolittle is a light entertainment piece that's great for the whole family. Well done animatronics and other special effects add to the enjoyment as we follow the adventures of Doolittle (Murphy), a doctor with little time for his family and no enthusiasm for his work. A near miss accident with a stray dog triggers a gift he'd shut off in his boyhood--the ability to converse with animals. Murphy is his usual flamboyant self and you'll hear some talented voices portraying the animals as well, including Ellen Degeneres, Chris Rock, and Garry Shandling.

Ever After Rated PG-13 Drew Barrymore, Dougray Scott, Angelica Huston Movie-Lite Rating: 4 1/2 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 7 (out of 10) Little kids may become a bit bored; girls will love it. Teenage boys may not. BUY MOVIE BUY SOUNDTRACK
If you're thinking this is "just another remake" of the classic Cinderella tale, you're in for a big surprise. Barrymore delivers a strong, near seamless performance as the main character "Danielle", Scott is a totally convincing royal counterpart, and Huston is THEE quintessential evil stepmother. Especially refreshing is the portrayal of Cinderella as a strong, learned, passionate woman, not as a victim of circumstance who needs rescuing. Though Danielle receives aid and assistance from a rather surprising source in her darkest hour, don't expect fairy godmothers or singing mice in this version. The film's premise is that the story of Cinderella was true and her granddaughter attempts to set some of the facts.
