A Bug's Life...Rated PG
With the voices of : Kevin Spacey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 10 out of 10!!
BUY MOVIE      BUY SOUNDTRACK

Touted as an "epic tale of miniature proportions",  this computer animated feature really fits the bill.   I worried this would be too similar to ANTZ to be enjoyable in its own right.  True, the bugs here tread on some familiar territory, but it is still very much worth seeing.    The storyline of "Bug's"  is geared more to the younger viewers than "Antz", but young and old will enjoy this story of good (bugs) vs. evil.

Almost Famous ...Rated R
Starring Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson

Movie-Lite Rating: 4 1/2  stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 4 out of 10-- sexual and substance abuse themes; not for the younger sect
BUY SOUNDTRACK

Lots of laughs, believable characters and accurate depiction of life in the 70's drives the beat of this rock n' roll film. Hudson could be the next Julianne Moore. You may not want this one to end!

ANTZ...Rated PG
With the voices of : Woody Allen, Sylvester Stallone
Movie-Lite Rating: 4 1/2 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 8 out of 10--kids looked a bit bored at times
BUY MOVIE

An absolutely brilliant computer animated piece that will delight young and old alike.   Woody Allen portrays "Z", a somewhat neurotic worker-ant-turned-hero, and an all-star cast lend their voices to tell the tale of an ant colony in turmoil.

Armageddon
...Rated PG
Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Steve Buscemi
Movie-Lite Rating: 4 1/2 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient:  4 out of 10 stars: May be boring to kids

While I always look forward to good special effects,  I'll admit I had my doubts about seeing yet another "Oh no, an asteroid is heading for Earth" flick.   However, the performance of the cast was well worth the price of admission.  Willis plays his usual brand of reluctant hero as convincingly as ever, and with Liv Tyler, Ben Afleck, and Steve Buscemi to round out the eclectic host of characters, it can't go wrong.  Get our your hankies --I even saw a few male audience members dabbing their eyes at the end.

Avengers...Rated PG-13
Starring: Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes
Movie-Lite Rating: 2 1/2 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 4 out of 10--kids under 12 seemed bored, some violence

After expecting a delightful, action-packed revamp of the old series, I was quite disappointed.   The script was weak, the action lagged, and some of the sight gags were nothing short of ludicrous.   Despite these shortcomings, the actors did their best to turn in notable performances,  and occasionally one almost believed in the sparks flying between Mr. Steed and Mrs. Peel.   All in all, the best part of the film was when the old theme music struck up at the end.

B

Blade  Rated R
Wesley Snipes, Christopher Kristofferson
Movie-Lite Rating:  4 1/2 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 2 out of 10 Extremely graphic violence and disturbing sexual themes make this a bad choice for the kiddies.

One of the best special effects films out there,  Blade finally showcases what Snipes is REALLY capable of.   A half-vampire breed created when his mother is attacked and bitten during her pregnancy, Blade has all of the strengths and few of the weaknesses of other "vamps"--and his thirst for revenge on those who took his mother's life rivals the bloodthirst typical of his kind.

This is NOT for the faint of heart or stomach.    Far from being a Buffy-on-steroids flick, this is a serious gorefest that left several audience members looking a bit pale.    Personally I found the special effects and martial arts sequences enough to distract me from the graphic intense violence...others may not agree.

C

The Cell ...Rated R
Starring Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Lopez

Movie-Lite Rating: 2 1/2  stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 2 out of 10-- very disturbing images and graphic violence...leave younger teens and kids home
BUY SOUNDTRACK

Intriguing concept but doesn't quite deliver.      The intense special effects and disturbing imagery aren't quite enough to make up for the weak script, but should keep you from  running out for popcorn.

Cirque du Soleil: A Journey of Man ...IMAX 3D
Narrated by Patrick Stewart

Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2  stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 10 out of 10: family entertainment for everyone

Breathtaking visuals dotted with unnecessary storyline. The lags in the story should have been unforgivable in a film this length, but the IMAX-3D format was such a perfect venue to showcase the troupe's acrobatic talent I was able to overlook it.

City of Angels  Rated PG-13
Starring: Meg Ryan, Nicholas Cage
Movie-Lite Rating:  3 1/2 stars out of five
Kid Quotient:  4 out of 10: Boring for kids; some adult themes and violence
BUY  MOVIE     BUY  SOUNDTRACK

This ethereal love story of an angel (Cage) who gives up everything to be with a human he has "fallen" for (Ryan) is poignant, strong, and well acted.  Not the typical love story and a few twists along the way.   Triple-H Alert:  Have Hanky Handy.
