This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow the eerie escapades of unwelcome visitors to little Cole Sears (Collette).  Is the child imagining things?  Or does he really have visions of the undead?   Psychologist Dr Malcome Crowe (Willis) embarks on an obsessive mission to find out.
Amazing performances and plot twists make this a must-see film.

Sleepy Hollow  Rated R

One of the best special effects films out there, this retelling of the classic pits timid constable Ichabod Crane (Depp) against the ruthless, bloodthirsty Headless Horseman (brilliantly done by Ray Park of Star Wars: Phantom Menace fame).  Fight scenes are well choreographed and exciting and the suspense palpable.  Genre and classic horror fans will not be disappointed.

Soldier...Rated PG-13
Starring Kurt Russell, Jason Scott Lee
Movie-Lite Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 4 out of 10--Graphic violence-older teens tend to be ok
BUY  MOVIE

Russell brilliantly portrays a man who was part of a government experiment to create the "perfect" soldier.   When technology advances, and genetically manipulated models (like Lee) far away exceed the experiment's origins, Russell becomes obsolete and is  unceremoniously tossed onto a planet used for refuse dumping. There he must survive, and discover whether any humanity still exists within him.
Special effects sequences are very well rendered, and combined with the interesting storyline and compelling cast this becomes a very worthwhile film.

(There's) Something About Mary...Rated R
Starring Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon
Movie-Lite Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Kid Quotient: 4 out of 10--Adult themes make this unsuitable for the the kids.  Popular with older teens

This one's not for the squeamish; much of the humor and sight gags in this romantic comedy are unabashed and downright gawdy.  Some may find the humor offensive.  For the rest: expect to hold your sides until they hurt as several would-be suitors (including a bonafide stalker) stumble over each other to get a chance with the angelic "Mary". Dillon has really shown himself capable of doing raw comedy in a few of his roles; this one is no exception.   One of the funniest movies of the summer, quirky and delightful.

Star Trek: Insurrection  Rated PG
Starring: Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn
Movie-Lite Rating:  4 stars (out of 5)
Kid Quotient: 6 (out of 10) Hard to follow plot for younger kids.

The effects on the Trek films just keep getting better and better, and the storylines more interesting.  This is a must for the franchise in order to keep people coming back after more than 3 decades.   In this episode, the crew uncovers a plot to secretly relocate a race of beings who holds the secret to eternal youth.
Insurrection is a visual feast of stunning scenery and is worth renting to play on the biggest screen you can find.

Star Wars Episode 1: Phantom Menace  Rated PG
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman
Movie-Lite Rating:  3 1/2 stars (out of 5)
Kid Quotient: 10 (out of 10)

One of the most talked about movies of all time, this box office smash hit is fun for the whole family but has its downsides.   The script is weak at times, surprising for Lucas, and some of the characters look as if they'd be more at home in a Saturday morning cartoon.  But the old flavor is still there, with intriguing effects and fight sequences that beat the former Star Wars installments hands down.  This "prequel"  occurs before the story of Star Wars, where we see Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker as a precocious 9-year-old with some special gifts.

A period action piece with an interesting story concept and notable performances by its actors.  Banderas plays an Arab who tells his tale of adventures with "northerners" battling demon warriors that threaten to overtake their land.

The movie had me right up until the end, which puzzled me and left me a bit flat.  Nevertheless, the cinematography, action, and costuming alone was enough to make me glad I spent my $7 to see this on the big screen.

Titan A.E.   Rated PG-13

The stunning animation will captivate you while the story line and original soundtrack propels you along through the universe on a journey to save the human race after Earth is destroyed by the Dredge, aliens made of pure energy.   If you missed out on the big screen showing of this awesome film, be sure to check it out on DVD or VHS, preferably on the biggest screen you can find.

Twenty-Eight Days   Rated PG-13
Starring Sandra Bullock, Steve Buscemi
Movie-Lite Rating:  3 1/2 stars (out of 5)
Kid Quotient: 4 (out of 10) adult themes and substance abuse.

In an interview about this film, Bullock discusses having checked in and completed a 28-day rehab program as research for her role as an acoholic.   The result was a character who is realistic, touching, humorous and strong.  This  poignant, yet not overdone depiction of life getting sober is a real winner.
