An Uneasy Recovery

The Light of Day

An Uneasy Recovery

The little boy was simple
knew easy escapes
taught by the nurses
able to take himself
out of himself
and into places
where he felt no pain.

The brutality nearly killed him
left scars and nightly distress
suspended his boyhood
but he kept himself
within himself
and turned the abuse
into a purpose.

The evil never swallowed him
and is now convicted
and worlds away.

Standing beside himself
more sure of himself
the little boy
would rediscover immaturity.
