Inspiration
for a healthier lifestyle
Exercise
Exercise helps us lose weight by burning fast
and increasing muscle tissue. It
also
improves our metabolic rate, digestion and sleep, increasing
energy levels and lowering blood pressure.
In turn, this can reduce bad cholesterol levels, increase
mental alertness, reduce depression & anxiety, strengthen
muscles & bones, increase flexibility, stamina and ultimately
our self-esteem.
Exercise should be easy to arrange –
there are local gyms, yoga classes, parks for walking, tennis etc.
Studies show the benefits of just 30 minutes of moderate exercise
a day:
- Cuts
the risk of heart diseases by 50%
- Reduces
high blood pressure by 30%
- Reduces
your weight (if you are overweight) even if you don’t diet
Taking your first steps:
If you have not exercised in a while, start slowly and gently.
Give yourself time to get used to more exercise before you build up.
e.g. walk for 10 min.s a day the first week;
see how you feel;
next week you could make it 15 min.s a day and so on.
Don't "burn out":
Some people get filled with enthusiasm & hit the gym or running
track too hard.
The risk is that you strain or pull a muscle and cannot exercise, so
it is always better to start gently.
