| It's in that girl that struck out swinging, and instead of throwing down her helmit angrily, goes and ask what she did wrong so that she can do it right the next time. Unlike others on the team, she, eager and ready for practice, comes a bit earlier than the others, and may stay after even a long practice for extra help or tips. She seems to learn quickly, but it's not that she's smarter. It is the extra practice and work she does. Even when no one knows about it. When there is no team practice, just for extra practice. She seems happiest when on the field. And rejoices in not only her own, but her team mate's achievements. Whenever a person makes a bad play and is discouraged, she brings up a good play that that person made earlier. She listens to the coach with interest in her eyes, not bored and uninterested. She'll take advice and use it to her advantage, takes extra time to learn plays, signals and situations. She may not be the fastest, strongest or biggest, but she tries her best, runs her fastest, uses the strength she has . Not boastful or prideful but a true sport Willing to help another player. She dreams of being the best, and works and strives for it instead of waiting for it to just come. It can be called determination, sportsmanship, and many other names. It is "A True Love Of The Sport." By M. Megan Smart Written after the summer of 2000 |
