Academic Calendar and National Holidays

[Academic Calendar]

An academic year starts on the 1st of April and ends on the 31st of March the following year.

First Semester : April 1 to September 30

Second Semester : October 1 to March 31

* You are required to always pay attention to the notices of events and other information on the bullentin board of the Faculty.

On Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, banks, post offices, and companies are closed. But most of the department stores and shops are open. When a national holiday falls on a Sunday, the next Monday will be a holiday.

 

Academic Advisor and Tutor

Whom should you consult when you feel uneasy or have some questions about life and study in Japan? You can talk to your academic advisor or a tutor as well as your friends.

 

[Academic advisor] * Your academic advisor gives you advice about study in your specialty and life on campus.

 

[Tutor]

*A tutor is usually chosen among the students of the department of your specialty to help you with your study and research. You can also ask him or her many things about daily life or Japanese culture.

In addition, there are the Student Affairs Section and the registrar's office of the Faculty which help you in your study and life at Miyazaki University.

* Foreign Student Section of Curriculum Development Division

- accepting foreign students

- conducting general work dealing with foreign students

- taking care of Arrival Allowance, Reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Study Allowances, etc.

- scholarships

- municipal and prefectural apartments

- organizing some events for foreign students

- issuing Certificate of Mombusho Scholarship Student, Guarantee of Mombusho Student, Certificate of Private Scholarship Student, etc.

- helping the procedure of leaving Japan (scholarship, short-term)

 

* Welfare Division (Dormitory): International House, disaster insurance

- accepting application and issuing certificates

 

* Student Guidance Division: Lending of university facilities and equipments Scholarship Travel

 

[The Registrar's Office of the Faculty]

- matters relating to curriculum, classes, tests, etc.

- matters relating to student status

- matters relating to tuition exemption, scholarships, etc.

- procedures for accepting foreign students; procedures for foreign students returning to their home country.

 

Certificates you can obtain by the automatic issuing machine on the first floor at university Hall: Certificate of Enrollment, School Transcript, Certificate of obtained Credits, Certificate of Expectation of Graduation, Certificate of Qualification for a Student Discount (JR).

 

Tuition Exemption and Scholarship

[Tuition Exemption]

You must apply for tuition exemption. All or half of the tuition fee will be exempted depending on the evaluation of your application.

 

[Those who are entitled to a tuition exemption]

1. Private Foreign Students (Undergraduates and Graduates Students)

2. Those who have difficulty paying the tuition fee and who do well at school.

 

[Application Period / Application Procedures]

A notice giving more information will be put on the bulletin board.

First Semester: Application Period March

Second Semester: Aplication Period September

There may be some change of application period.

 

[Matters that require attention after Application]

Do not pay your tuition fee until the result of your application is made known. Be aware that, if paid, the tuition fee will not be paid back. There is also a grace period and a monthly installment system, so it is not necessary to pay your tuition immediately. (For further information, ask the Welfare Division of the Student Affairs Bureau.)

 

[Scholarships]

The following scholarships are available for private foreign students. Be aware, however, that the number of scholarship recipients is limited and the criteria for selecting recipients is very rigid.

o World Peace Women's Association scholarship

o The Peace Nakajima Foundation Scholarship

* Each scholarship has its own criteria relating to the application period and the number of recipients. The notices of application will be put on the bulletin boards of Student Affairs Bureau and each faculty.
