Bringing Your Familiy to Japan

Understandably, you will want to live together with your family as soon as possible, but it may be better for you to invite your family after you find a place to live and get used to life in Japan.

[How to obtain a visa for your family]

(A)Your family can apply directly to the a Japanese Embassy in your country.

(B)You can apply for a "Certificate of Eligibility for Status of Residence" at the Kagoshima Branch Office of the Fukuoka Immigration Bureau. You then send this form to your family in you country. Your famiry then brings it to the Japanese Embassy in your country.

 

(B) will take less time than (A) to obtain a visa, so we will give a detailed explanation of procedure (B).

 

[Application Procedure] * Free of charge

* You apply for the "Certificate of Enrollment," "Certificate of Mombusho Scholarship Student," and "Certificate of Payment of Scholarship Allowance" at the Foreign Students Section of the University. It will take about a week.

* "Certificate of Enrollment" can be obtained by the automatic issuing machine on the first floor at University Hall (ID card is necessary).

 

[Necessary Documents]

1. Application form of Certificate of Eligibility for Status of Residence

2. Two photos of each of your family members (passport-size 40mmx30mm)

3. Photocopies of passports of each of your family members

4. Your Certificate of Enrollment

5. Documents certifying the relationship between you and your family members (ex. Certificate of Marriage / Birth Certificate)

6. Your Alien Registration Certificate

7. Documents certifying your ability to support your family (ex.Certificate of Mombusho Scholarship Student / Certificate of Payment of Scholarship Allowance / Your bank balance)

8. If you want to have the "Certificate" sent directly to you, include a stamped, self-addressed envelop. Registered mail would be better to prevent loss.

9. You may be asked to submit some other documents.

School in Japan

[Elementary and Secondary School]

* In Japan, if the parents request permission, children have the right to attend school regardless of nationality.

* Children enter elementary school if they turn 6 years old before April 2nd of the year of entry. The school board will send a notice of admission identifying which school has been selected.

* School-age children transferred to a given school are usually placed with children of their own age, but if there are concerns about a student's Japanese language ability or education level, the child may be placed in a lower grade level.

[Kindergarten]

* Kindergarten is an institution of education for children before they enter elementary school.

* Children may enter between the ages of 3 and 5. Admission procedures are carried out at each individual kindergarten, so please inquire accordingly.

* Within certain limits, there are programs to help defray the costs of sending children to public and private kindergartens.

[Nursery School]

* Nursery schools are institutions which provide child care in situations where both parents work (or attend school) and are unable to care for their child during the day.

* For further information, call the Children & Welfare Division of Miyazaki City Hall (Tel. 0985-21-1774) or the Health Care Division of Kiyotake Town Hall (Tel. 0985-84-2019).

 

Pregnancy and Birth

If you become pregnant, you must submit a notification of pregnancy to the following places:
