Necessary Procedures for Leaving Japan

 

[Moving out of Apartments]

(University International House)

* You are required to submit a Notification of Vacating to the International House office.

o Those who plan to vacate when the residence period expires should submit the notification one month before the expiration date.

o Those who plan to vacate before the residence period expires should submit the notification ten days before vacating.

* You must pay the rent for the final month and various expenses.

* You must clean the apartment, fix all furniture so that it is in the same condition as when you moved in, return the keys, and have the superintendent and the House official check the room condition. (If you have a kitchen, you must clean the gas range hood and the gas ring.)

 

(Prefectural Apartments)

Call the Housing Section of the Miyazaki Public Work Office (Tel. 0985-26-7287)

 

(Municipal Apartments)

Call the Housing Section of Miyazaki City Hall (Te1.0985-21-1804)

 

(Private Apartments)

You are required to inform the real estate agent or the landlord about your moving-out at least one month before vacating the apartment.

[Electricity / Gas / Water Supply]

* Sometimes the real estate agent or the landlord will complete the necessary procedures. Otherwise, you must complete the necessary procedures yourself, including the payment of the fees.

[Telephone]

* You must pay all fees to all the telephone companies you have used (NTT, KDD, IJT, etc.)

[Closing your bank account]

* Before you close your bank account, please make sure that housing reimbursement money, study travel money, and the scholarship stipend for the last month have already been deposited and that the money for all bills including the one for a personal phone you pay by automatic transfer have been withdrawn.

[National Health Insurance]

* Please return the National Health Insurance Card to City or Town Hall. If you do not do this, you will be charged the insurance fee for the next month.

[Children' s School]

* You must inform the school of the date of transfer beforehand.

[At the Foreign Student Section]

* Inform the Foreign Student Section of your address in your home country.

 

You may be very busy doing many things just before you leave Japan, but please do not forget to pay all your bills. If you forget, you will cause a lot of trouble for your guarantor, your advisor, and university officials.
