Advanced Tricks
This trick uses the double lift, the glide, and the overhand shuffle, all of which are described in the trick. Effect - You show the spectator their card and put it in their hands. You take another card and put it under their foot. They look at the card in their hands and their card has dissapeared. You take the card from under their foot and it is their card. Method - Tell the spectator to cut the deck and complete the cut. Give them the new top card. Tell them to put the card on the bottom of the deck. Lift up the corner of the top card very slightly and remember it. Cut the deck. Tell the spectator that you are going to find a good cutting spot. Turn the deck over so that it is facing you with the backs of the cards to the audience. Quickly push off cards to the right and when you get to the card you memorized, push 2 cards on top of it and cut the lower half to the top. The spectators card is now the 4th from the bottom of the deck. Square the deck and hold it in your left hand with the faces toward you. Tell the spectator that you are going to put 4 cards in their hand and to not tell you if their card is one of them. Keeping the deck in your left hand, rotate it so that the spectator can see the bottom card. Turn the deck back towards you and deal the bottom card face down into their hand. Do the same with the next 2 cards. When you get to their card, show them the card like the other ones. When you turn it back toward you, push their card about half an inch down. Grab the second to the bottom card and deal it to them. This is called the glide. The spectator now thinks that their card is the top one in their hand. Take the deck with the faces of the cards toward you in your left hand and pick up most of the deck from the bottom with your right hand. Drop small piles of a few cards from the top of the packet in your right hand to the top of the packet in your left hand. Make sure to drop the bottom card on its own onto the top of the deck. This is called the overhand shuffle. Slightly push the top 2 cards upward about half of a centimeter with your left thumb. Tilt the deck slightly so that the spectator can't quite see the top card. Pick up the top 2 cards with your thumb against one short side and your pointer finger against the other short side. The 2 cards should look like one card. This is called the double lift. Ask the spectator if this is their card. They will say no. Take the real top card and place it under the spectators foot. Ask the spectator which card he thinks is his. He should say the top card in his hand is his card. Show him the top card. Then one by one show him the other 3 cards. Say "Have you ever heard of sleight of hand? What about sleight of foot?" Show him the card under his foot and it will be his card.
Sleight of Foot
Advanced tricks use special skills such as the glide. Below is a short description of some of the skills used in these tricks.
Double lift - When you lift 2 cards and make it look like one. Glide - When you pull out the second to the top or bottom card and make it look like the top or bottom. Overhand shuffle - A shuffle that brings either the top card to the bottom, or the bottom card to the top. Riffle shuffle - An easy shuffle that enables you to keep the top or bottom cards in the same place. Fake Cut - A cut that keeps all of the cards in the same order. Thumb Palm Switch - a sleight that allows you to switch two objects in your hand. Square pass - A sleight that lets you bring a card to the top just by squaring up the deck. Palming - Keeping an object concealed in the hand and making your hand look normal.
Let's Try That Again
This trick uses the double lift, the riffle shuffle, and the overhand shuffle. Effect - You take the top card from the deck and to your suprise it isn't the spectators card. You put that card to the side and take the new top card. It is the same one that you picked up before. You turn over the card to the side and it is the spectators card. Method - Cut the deck and show the spectator the top card. Tell them to memorize it and then put it on the bottom of the deck. With the top of the cards slanted slightly towards you, lift up the bottom corner and remember the card. Tell the spectator to cut the deck. Turn the deck upside down andtell the spectator that you are going to find a good cutting place. Push cards into your right hand until you get to the card you memorized. Taking the card you memorized as the last card on top, cut the deck. The spectators card is now on the bottom of the deck. Preform the overhand shuffle by taking most of the deck from the bottom in the right hand and the rest in the left hand. With the faces toward you, drop small packets of about 5 cards from the right hand onto the top of the cards in the left hand.Make sure that you drop the last card by itself onto the top of the deck. Rifle shuffle the deck by taking half of the deck from the bottom in the right hand and sliding that into the deck in the left hand. Keep the top card on top. You can do this as long as you want. Slide the top two cards down about a quarter of an inch and with the thumb and index finger, pick up the top 2 cards making it look like one card. Tell the spectator that you have found their card. They should say that the card isn't theirs. Look suprised and start saying insults about the card. For example, if the card was an ace of spades, you would say something like "That ace of spades is always getting in the way." or "The ace of spades is always ruining everything." Put the double lift back on top of the deck and put the real top card off to the side face down. Say "I'll teach that card a lesson. He won't be able to ruin anymore tricks." Say "Let's try that again." Take the top card and show it to the spectator. Act suprised to see the same card there. Say something like "If the ace of spades is here, what did I put over to the side?" Turn over the card and it will be the spectators.

The Cheater
This is a great trick. It only uses the glide. Effect - You show 4 aces of spades one at a time on the bottom of the deck. You rub the aces on your knee and they become 4 different aces. Method - Put the 4 aces on the bottom of the deck with the ace of spades on the very bottom and the ace of clubs directly above it. Say "There once was a cheater who put the 4 aces on the bottom of the deck." Show the ace of spades on the bottom and do the glide by pushing it down an inch and dealing the ace of clubs face down. Then say "The only problem is that he forgot to look at what aces he chose". Show the ace of spades again, do the glide and deal it face down on top of the other ace. Repeat this with the next ace. With the last ace, acctually take the ace of spades and scoop up the rest of the cards, so that the ace of spades is on the bottom. Pull down the ace of spades a little bit, so that you can see the A in the ace of clubs. Show the ace on the bottom and say "The cheater was a genius, so he thought of a plan to make all of the aces different". Make sure the spectator can see your knee (if they can't, do it on your elbow) and rub the cards face down over it. Show the cards and hand out the deck for examination.
