| The Paintbrush |
| I made up this trick. When done correctly, this trick has a magnificent effect that leaves people with their mouths agape. Effect - A card is freely chosen by the spectator. They then pick three other cards, but doesn't look at them. The magician cuts the deck. The magician takes the top card from the deck and puts it tin the middle. He them picks up the next top card and uses it as a paintbrush to slowly paint the spectators card onto the back of another card. Method - The only preperation needed is to have a deck of cards with a small white border around the back of the cards (most decks have this). Cut the deck or have the spectator cut the deck. Take the new top card and show it to the spectator and then put it back on top of the deck.. Spread out the cards facedown in yor hand and ask the spectator to pick any 3 cards. Tell them to not look at the cards, but to give them to you. When they are holding the 3 cards in their hand, turn their card face up on the top of the deck. Take the 3 cards and quickly put them on top of the face up spectators card. Distract them by saying that you are going to use the paintbrush method to find their card. While saying this, secretly cut the deck and get a pinky brake in between the two halves. Do this by grasping the deck in you left hand with your palm up and put the tip of your pinky inbetween the top and bottom halves. Squeeze the deck with your thumb and other 3 fingers to make it look as if there was no brake in the cards. Say "The first step to the paintbrush method is to cut the deck". Reverse the cut by cutting at the point where your pinky brake is. Then say "The second step is to take the top card and stick in the middle of the deck". Do what you just said. After this say "I am going to use the top card as a paintbrush to paint your card onto the back of the second to top card". Take the top card in your right hand, and push the next top card up as far as the border is. Take the card in your right hand and slowly brush the card back and forward 3 times while counting aloud. On the third brush, grasp the top card as well as the card you are holding in your hand and do one final paint stroke. Their card appears to have been painted on the back of the other card. Quickly take the two cards in your hand and put them on the bottom of the deck and hand the deck out for examination. |
| Post Card It |
| This is the type of trick where you destroy a signed item in front of the spectator and it appears back to normal somewhere else. Effect - A spectator chooses a card and the deck is shuffled. The spectator writes a message on a post it note and folds it up. The magician then tears up the note in front of their eyes. The magician cuts the deck again and spreads through the cards face up. A folded up postit note is found on top of their card. They unfold the note and their message is written on it. Method - This trick requires you to have two post it notes and a pen in your pocket. Pre fold one of the notes into eighths before you do the trick and hold it invisibly between the thumb and index finger. Cut the deck in front of the audience. Show the spectator the top card. Put it back on top and do the following fake cut. Take the top half of the deck in your right hand, but put the thumb of your left hand on the top card in the righthand. Pull the right hand away keeping the top card on top and finish the cut. Do the overhand shuffle by picking up most of the cards in your right hand and quickly drop small packets of cards below the remaining cards in your left hand. Make sure that you drop the last card alone on to the bottom of the deck. I like to do this with the faces toward me, so that the spectator can't see that their card is on the bottom. Put the deck to the side and tell the spectator to write a short message or draw a picture on the unfolded post it note in your pocket. Tell the spectator to fold the note in to eighths and to give it to you. Click here to find out how to make the swich of post it notes. Tear up the fake note in front of the spectator and put the peices in your pocket. Take the deck in your right hand and secretly place the thumb palmed note on the bottom of the deck. Cut the deck and spread out the cards faceup. A post it note will be on top of the spectators card. Open up the note and show the spectator his/her message. |

| The Out of Place Card |
| This trick is unbeleivable. It is probably the most impressive trick you can do with out a trick deck. There is one major setback. You need 2 identical decks of cards. Effect - The spectator cuts the deck and the top card is his. He pushes it into the middle of the deck and shuffles it so that the card is completely lost. The magician takes the deck, and fans through the cards showing that they are in no particular order. He turns the deck face down and gives it a shake. Every card is in order from ace to king except the spectators. Method - Before you do the trick, take one of the identicle decks and put it in order from ace to two in every suit. Take any card that is not a face card (let's say its the 10 of clubs) so that it does not look suspicious and put it in with a suit of the other color (put the 10 with the hearts or diamonds). With the other deck, take out the card you used before and palm it directly before you preform. This trick is best done at a table with the spectator opposite of you. The organized deck should be in your pocket or some where that the spectator can't see. When you sit down at the table, put the set up deck in your lap. Take the other deck and hand it to the spectator to shuffle. Take the deck in the hand that you have the card palmed in and secretly place the card on top. Show the top card and hand it to the spectator to put anywhere in the deck. Have them shuffle it and to give it back to you. Spread through the cards once more saying that the cards are completely mixed. Say "I am going to attempt to find your card in a unique way." Take the fake deck in your left hand and bring your right hand into your lap. Switch the two decks and bring the set up deck into veiw. Give it a little shake and spread through the cards one at a time showing that they are in order. Stop when you get to the one card out of order and remind the spectator that they had a free choice of what card to pick. |
