"WE WERE SOLDIERS"
Dean Hodgdon, 504th MPs with a captured AK47 and SKS assault rifles.  Note the bayonet on the SKS.  Above:  Gary Cartwright, John Neverla and John Danahy of the 504th MPs.  Cartwright received the Bronze Star for heroism during the Tet Offensive of '68.
Left, PFC Helmicki of the 552nd MP Company in Long Binh holds fellow MP T.J. Chapman "prisoner".  It's o.k., I've seen Helmicki shoot.
Doug Dragert, also with the 552nd MPs is ready for a convoy run.  Destination, The Iron Triangle.  Below, an unknown MP with the 504th MP Bn. stands with a Korean soldier.

Per A.W. Christiansen, 527th MP Company,  checking out a convoy coming in to Saigon on the outskirts of the city.

Jim Cassidy with the 9th Infantry Division MPs near An Loc during Operation Junction City a joint operation with the 1st Infantry Division.  Now we all know that MPs were NOT allowed to drink beer during their tour of duty in Vietnam.  Cassidy must have taken this can of Pabst Blue Ribbon into evidence and is just inspecting it.

Some of the other beers we were not allowed to drink were Black Label, Budweiser and Ba Muoi Ba, or the Vietnamese "33" beer.  Of course we adhered to this rule strictly.
Below: Lee Simmons of Charlie Company of the 720th MP Battalion.  To his left is SFC Chester Baker, affectionately known as "Da Judge".
Sgt. Lee Simmons.
Lee Simmons today.  Lee has worked for the VA for the last 8 years in his "mission" to help those that need it most, our disabled and needing vets.  His other glory is his wife, Darla.
Guard mount, 716th MP Co., Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon.  Left:  two "Charlie" company MPs getting ready for work.
Above:  Ken Tuggle, "C" Co., 716th MPs,  receives the Army Commendation Medal from battalion commander LTC Theodore S. Kanamine.

Mike Seery and Mark Casey take a break while on duty with the 1st. Infantry Division MPs (The Big Red One).  Mark Casey waits by his gun jeep.  Gerry Hightower on patrol near the airfield at Lai Khe.
CWO2 Mary Bender, now deceased,  was not an MP, but she fought side-by-side with them.  During the surprise TET attack in 1968 she was holed up in the Meyerkord Hotel and with fallen MPs outside of the hotel took up arms to fend off the VC trying to overrun the hotel.  Anyone having information on what happened at the Meyerkord that night please contact me by clicking on my email address...
