A camp follower digs holes for posts that two soldiers are erecting for a medieval camp

Ye Olde Post Hole

After the excess of my first batch of camps (Palisade Gate Tower, Camping Amid the Columns, etc.), I wanted to do a nice, simple generic camp that could be used by any Medieval army. The use of palisade stakes made from Craft Stix (bag of 500 = $1.99) had worked great with the first batch, so I thought I'd do a camp with a palisade in its beginning stages of construction.

The base is plastic styrene with an upper layer of Craft Foam glued atop it. I cut out holes for the posts using an X-acto knife and epoxied the posts into place. As mentioned in the other descriptions, the craft foam around the stake's base helps hold it firmly in place. A pile of trimmed posts were stacked to the rear of the camp for posts ready to be placed. A circle was cut into the craft foam to represent a hole awaiting its post. The earth around the edges was a mixture of white glue and Woodland Scenics Turf.

The two soldiers and camp follower are from Rank & File. The soldiers are from their pikemen bag (I thought the combination of a kneeling and standing guy worked great). The camp follower digging the hole is a crewman from one of Rank & Files artillery packs. The camp was finished off with an initial layer of Woodland Scenics Turf flocking, followed by mixed grasses.

I felt this was a great, simple Medieval camp that showed something more original than a tent and camp wall. My picture doesn't do it much justice, but I feel it will look great on the tabletop behind a Medieval DBA army.
