This is probably the most involved of the camps I've done for sale, so far. It was created for Dave Zecchini, who though a master painter himself, said he finds it hard to get inspired to do camps.
The columns are from a 20-piece, 99 cent bag of "Mgd. Pins" by Wood Shoppe Turnings, purchased at Hobby Lobby. I sawed off the tapered ends and slapped a piece of base wood on top as a lintel (or not, for the broken ones). The grooved shape of these pins made excellent fluted columns. I sliced up various sizes for broken ones. I thought it was a nice touch that two smaller pieces would have been rolled over to use as stools by the cookpot.
The cookpot itself is a trimmed down stopper from the inside of an epoxy bottle. I poked a metal pin through it and glued it atop a couple Craft Stix supports (also from Hobby Lobby -- bag of 500 = $1.99). The ruined wall was created by stacking individual bricks cut from bass wood. I'd bought some Sculpy to make bricks, but hadn't done it, yet. A couple of beads as urns and two Old Glory figs completed the piece. The base was painted medium gray with Woodland Scenics Turf and mixed grasses for flocking.
While I was constructing this, I kept thinking, "This is too busy -- I'm not going to like it." However, the flocking "calmed it down," and I am quite happy with how it turned out. Hopefully, Dave will be, too!
(Zeke liked it and bought it for $25 at our February Gods of War campaign meeting).
