Mitsukake
Mitsukake, first introduced as a rude doctor who quit being a doctor for no apparent reason. There has been a fatal disease going around in town, which was actually being spread by a disease demon which had possesed Shoka, she was Mitsukake's lover and assistant when he was a doctor. Miaka catches the fatal disease and the seishi turn to the only doctor in town, Mitsukake, who refuses. Until he hears Nuriko mention the name Shoka, he claims that Shoka had actually died a year ago! They hurry and rush back finding Miaka about to be eaten by the disease demon possessing Shoka. The truth was Shoka had caught the horrible illness a year ago and waited for Mitsukake to return, who was far away at another town, to cure someone. Shoka held on as long as she could and was in horrible pain, she died moments before Mitsukake finally arrived. He was saddened that he couldn't even save the one who he cared for the most. He uses his healing power to destroy the demon and allow Shoka to rest in peace. Mitsukake heals Miaka with his healing powers, and Miaka quickly awakens seeing the Seishi mark on his hand. Mitsukake is a quite but kind person.
